Re: What comics did you buy today?

As an infant my first comic collection, consisting only of Pippin and Playland, was thrown away by my mother. I’ve always meant to go back and reacquire those very early 1970s issues. Now the first few dozen are due to roll in, so I can relive the delights of The Moonbeans, The Herbs and Mary Mungo ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

At last after a fair bit of searching I’ve acquired the late sixties British versions of Zap Comix issues 0 & 1. Containing the total non licenced content of the US originals, with the bonus of issue 0 having additional British content “Help Keep Britain High.” These were two shillings, sixpence eac...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I’ve got one of those Eagle variations too. I’ve heard that it was to test the colour printing press. A nice thing to have in the collection. I have seen one go for £1,000 !

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Doug - what was even stranger was that Dracula bowed out fairly early on post merger while the cover continued with “and Dracula Lives” for months afterwards.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Dracula Lives No.87 (1976) - the final issue prior to its merger with Planet of the Apes the following week. The announcement is saved up for the penultimate page. It all seems quite abrupt as Dracula and Man Thing commence new issue reprints that issue, so POTA readers start half way through. Odd.

“Vworp Vworp! Volumes One and Two Collected” arrived today. This Doctor Who title collects both previous numbers - and is gorgeous! Packed with behind the scenes information (gossip!) on Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly plus comic strips, it weighs in at 196 pages for £15.99.

Re: Jackpot Annual 1982 Christmas Cover Art

Thanks for sharing. It’s a great piece of art from a great artist. Too much of Sid’s art has been destroyed but he’s always been a favourite. His work on Joker always made me go straight to the back cover of Whizzer & Chips before I even opened it.

I don’t know all the answers but let’s not forget that Marvelman first appeared in Marvelman No.25.

Re: Howdy!

It’s always good to hear how approachable these creators are. I once emailed Barry Windsor Smith on his Power comic pin ups from the late 60s and got a very friendly reply.
