Re: Politics in kids comics

Alex Salmon and Gordon Brown both appeared in the Broons but probably the most out and out political endorsement was in Eric Larsen's Savage Dragon issue 137 where on the cover he outright backs Obama ( of course Mr Obama had a famous appearance in Spider Man isse 583 also) - Kennedy, Nixon , Carter...

Re: Any Christmas Issues that Stood Out - Past or Present

Seeing the Christmas editions of comics with the cover logo covered in snow was always a special treat as a kid and I loved em all -favurites that I recall were; The 1966 Beano edition (by Dudley Watkins I think) with a Christmas tree and Biffo etc reflected in the Xmas baubles/ decorations The 1967...

Re: Steel Claw-Stupendous library

Hi Paw, yes I do indeed remember the superhero Steel Claw, I liked that time also but cant remember his outfit I seem to recall it being a bit naff with 2 small helmet mounted antenna (and yellow)? Steel Claw (imho) is a character that would work very well with todays audience.

Re: Steel Claw-Stupendous library

Hi BillyTheCat: There was a Steel Claw book published called the "Vanishing man" that reprinted early SC stories (see first link) and the writer was Ken Blumer (and I think it was Tom Tully that wrote many of the Steel Claws latter adventures ) 2nd link is to some SC strips with that amazing Jesus B...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Picked up Jag (8th June 1968) for £3 in the Barras. Incidentally anyone in the Glasgow area that's not been to the comic stall in McIvers Market area and is looking for some really old comics (50s 60s and older Beano's, Dandy's etc etc) should talk to the guy he has 100s behind the counter- I always...

Re: Dredd Superfiend

I have to admit that I'm not a massive Dredd (or 2000AD) fan so do'nt have that link to the character a lot of fans have, but I thought that cartoon was okas well -, it was meant to be a parody (I hope) but it would be good to see a realistic / Bruce Timm type version of the character all the same -...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I picked up "Giant - Size Kung Fu Bible Stories" by Image a large size comic (the old 70s Treasury edition size)- at wait for it....... £14.99 ( a totally unreal price) However it has 8 pages of Bruce Timm art which is just amazing and worth the purchase price alone. Great stuff the double splash pa...

Re: Story Mergers Official or Unofficial

Ezra Creech (the main villian in the "Return of the White Eyes" strip ) and the Prof Krait, the Snake ("Shadow of the Snake" strip) both had separate stories/strips but combined in the "Masters of Menace" strip in Lion (and Lion and Thunder)

Re: Graphic Novels

Another excellent choice Paw re Toths "Bravo for Adventure " then again everything (imho) Toth did was fantastic . Wasn't "Bravo" technically a collection as (if I'm not wrong) as it first appeared in Warrens "Rook" magazine (issues 3 and 4) in 1980 not that this is an issue was just wondering what ...
