Re: Another appeal for help in finding a serial

No Phoenix, you are not looking for a single panel. I remember the same story that Tammyfan was looking for but that particular panel sticks in my mind. Thank you for your efforts anyway.

Re: Another appeal for help in finding a serial

I'm sorry if I'm sending you all on a wild-goose chase but I have a vivid memory of a comic strip illustration of a girl (not the main character) in a military-style uniform taking off a beret to reveal a shaven head, and that memory is more than half-a-century old! My Bunty reading days were from 1...

Re: Another appeal for help in finding a serial

I still stand by my earlier post that this picture story was in Bunty (the weekly comic not a picture story library). I have a feeling that the picture story Mona the Magician was running at the same time, about 1966 perhaps? I think the artist might have been the same one that did The Four Marys.

Re: Another appeal for help in finding a serial

I remember this story, I don't recall the the title but it was definitely in Bunty in the mid 1960s. Hope this helps.

Re: Bessie Bunter

Early Bessie Bunter material is available here:

Long before the days of Mary Moldsworth and Miss Stackpole. The original Billy Bunter stories are on the same site.

Re: Serials in Princess

I am sure Royal Daughters (usually, but not exclusively written Marjorie Coryn) appeared in Princess much earlier. There is one about Eleanora of Castille wife of Edward I in the first Princess Gift Book, two further stories are in this annual, one by Mary Lee, and the other by Alan Ivimey. The 1962...

Re: Serials in Princess

Wow! Thanks awfully Phil for all your hard work at the scanner. What a classy comic Princess was. One series that slipped through the memory was Wendy's Wizard. I think you are correct about the illustrations for the Jennifer Farley stories, whilst there are similarities to Roses's work it has a mor...

Re: Serials in Princess

Something I meant to add to my post but forgot to do so!!, was to say that several early serials in Princess were by Enid Blyton, there is some interesting information on the Enid Blyton Society website: http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/blyton-periodicals.php?category=Princess Enid Blyton ran her ...

Re: Serials in Princess

Thank you so much for that Phil. Great to see that story again. I checked ebay, Abebooks and the British Library Catalogue but it doesn't seem to have made it to book publication. Regarding the memory I can recall a lot from my formative years in the 60s especially reading matter, but what happened ...

Serials in Princess

Elsewhere on these Forums I was interested to see a scan of a page of a serial in Princess, Chocky by John Wyndham illustrated by Leslie Caswell. Oddly Chocky is considered an adult novel so it was unusual for it to be serialized in a children's publication, I found it quite scary at the time. I was...

Re: If we had a list of the 100 greatest serials in girls co

Tammyfan, the two 'Bunty: Golden Age Classic Stories' contain images of covers, 'headers' of stories that appeared in the comic, Bunty Club corner pages, features etc, the only complete stories in them are from the annuals. The Girl comic I was referring to was the original 1951-64 one. Sorry for an...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

I saw The Beano for sale in my local supermarket recently, the price was £2.50!! Golly, is this the usual price of the weekly comic or was it a special? When I read the Beano in the early 1960s it cost 3d.

Wonderful, thank you so much Phil. Mrs Thorne is a perfect villain, she looks evil even when she is smiling. Classic Bunty.

Re: Favourite characters/stories in girl's comics

A couple of favourite stories of mine were (I think) from Bunty. 'Stella Who?' about a girl who was a first class swimmer and won all the competitions, but who lived alone on a houseboat(?) and who appeared to have no surname. The other was a pony story called 'Linda and Lovely'. Linda rescues an ug...
