Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

I hope you don't mind my pointing this out to you, Bigwords, but when you want to talk about more than one forum , in the way you are using it, as a place, meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged, the plural is forums .. My Latin is notoriously rusty (working ...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

Long post is long. You might want to grab cookies and a coffee before you begin... Remember, though, it's only negatives from one point of view - that of the people seeing their old culture become museum pieces. Oooh. "Culture." :D I could have some real fun with that word. The aspects of comic cult...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

Hmmmm .. see the irony? Just because *I* cant be bothered with nearly everything on television at the moment doesn't mean that it is suddenly going to vanish. If I did have such powers, to make what annoys me go away forevermore, then Dale Winton would be purchasing a pair of brown trousers about n...

Re: Younger reader comics (the best of the rest)

I have a stack of nursery titles which I have yet to get to - the Rainbow television spin-off and the like, and interesting for the details they highlight, such as changes in writing for a younger audience compared to the forties and fifties - but it is going to be two or three weeks before I can be...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

I packed in TV altogether a decade ago Coming up on a year and a half since I have watched anything as-broadcast, and... Not missing it. I still need my regular comic fix, and I NEED the radio - anything without vocals - but as computer games, television and film aren't doing anything new, there's ...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

I thought it was Arrested development released on internet & that proved quite successful that they are now gonna do season 5 even though it wasn't as good as the network s 1-3 Thanky. That's the one. If webpages stayed where they ought to be it would make life so much easier. Mercy Reviews hasn't ...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

The page I had bookmarked the information on is gone. :( Check http://web.archive.org then. Wayback is good, but it doesn't catch everything. :( I *did* find notes on video recording technology, to work out how long people had been predicting the end of television, and we are coming up on seventy y...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

That's not right, is it? Didn't it première on HBO in July 2011, as mentioned here: http://www.flicksnews.net/2011/04/curb-your-enthusiasm-season-8.html The page I had bookmarked the information on is gone. :( There was a list of television firsts, with things seemingly getting worse and worse for ...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

What's the relevance of Curb Your Enthusiasm here? (I'm not sure what incidents you're referring to there.) The last season was released on the internet rather than on a network, and it was hailed by some as the end of television as we know it. A detail which a lot of people have missed when talkin...

Re: European Comics

For a decent - if very brief - overview of available European comics, I suggest The Essential Guide To World Comics. It is hit and miss with certain countries, and misses a lot of great comics, but it highlights titles which have been largely ignored in the UK.

I honestly didn't mean that post to come off as snarky as it might have seemed. It has been a long week. :)

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

Oh, and as for DVD box sets, people will be signed up to Netflix type arrangements, won't they, with unlimited shows and films streamed to their TVs or whichever devices they favour? A clutter-free future! The paper-free future was mooted in the eighties, and we are far from attaining that. I hones...
