Re: Trying to remember British comic series from 1959-1961 with story about giant spine throwing cacti

Re: Trying to remember British comic series from 1959-1961 with story about giant spine throwing cacti

Hi Jacot, When I get the chance to check the issues themselves tomorrow I'll give you more precise details but the story in question appeared in Jan/Feb 1959. It was a reprint of a Wizard story published seven years previously where it had been titled The Monster in Hyde Park. It would then resurfac...

Re: Victor or Rover and Wizard story

Hi Don,
That is exactly what it was I think. There was a whole series of one page picture features devoted to English and Scottish football club histories. If so, certainly Rover, not Victor.

Re: Complete Collections

Wow! I full run of Beano must only exist elsewhere in the British Library! Full runs of the Big 5 must also be few and far between, let alone the AP titles. I’m only one short of all of the Oldham’s titles myself, so I know how hard they can be to find. Thank you for sharing info on such an amazing...

Re: Complete Collections

In nearly 50 years of collecting I've managed to amass a good number of complete collections A complete collection of Beano, including all annuals, summer specials, comic libraries and all spinoff titles is my greatest achievement I suppose. Although I do also have all of Thomsons comic titles sinc...

Re: Max Miller

Hi Hawkeye, Definitely George Wakefield and then his son Terry Wakefield, after the formers death in 1942. Terry's style was very imitative of his father's and he often filled in for his dad even before his death. Between them the two Wakefields were very much the most familiar artistic face of Film...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

How did you know which issues the art was from? On the back of the art says the issue numbers. 🙂 I wonder if these originally came from the Pete Hansen collection. As he had a lot of these which I catalogued and dated for him. He also had a lot of Keyhole Kates by Allan Morley one of which turned o...

Hi Hobbitses,
Given that the Topper comic ran for nearly 40 years I think you might have to tell us when your partner was eight years old.
