Re: Your Favourite No.1s

1st issues were always exciting in the 1970s and 1980s. As a family during this period we used to get almost all of the IPC, UK Marvel (plus US) and DC Thomson first issues. We used to like most of them and built up long runs of each. The UK ones I remember most fondly were: Dr Who Weekly (I'd been ...

Re: Starlord: 2000AD's Savior or Not?

Strontium Dog has just completed a 10 issue story in 2000ad - does anyone know what the significance of the little mini gronk that Johnny Alpha holds in his hand at the end?

The fact that the key Starlord stories are still going decades later shows how successful the merger was.

Re: Beano Sales

Strong Beano sales seem to be related to holiday's in my area. I noticed that over Xmas; half term and the Easter holidays that Beano's in the South London supermarkets I visit were mostly sold, often with 1 issue left. Dennis & Gnasher magazine has also done very well from what I can see. However i...

Re: Why Collect?

As a child, it was only when I reached around 150 comics that I realised that I had a collection. Most of my comics were bought by Grandad and also Dad. So they are especially important to keep. When in the '80s I filled up all the holes in my collection, with the final hard-to-find issues completed...

Spider-man and the Black Cat

Way back in 1979, Marvel's answer to Cat Woman (from Batman) was Felicia Hardy "The Black Cat" http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Cat_%28comics%29#mediaviewer/File:Spider194.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Cat_%28comics%29#mediaviewer/File:Spider194.png Does anyone else remember these and th...

Re: Mike Dorey

Thanks Col Cool. Could you ask him about any comic art he was involved in that we're not aware of ? For example, did he work on any Hellman of Hammer Force or any other Battle / Valiant etc story's that were 1, 2 or 3 issues long only? If he remembers that far back. Could you also ask him what he di...

Re: An Annual for Xmas - A Xmas Annual?

Monster Fun and Dr Who annuals were the ones I looked forward to every year. I had read an old Jon Pertwee annual at school during a wet lunch break and whenever it rained I would reread it over and over. So mum gave me the Dr Who annual 1978 for Xmas 1977. I carried on getting this every Xmas until...

Re: Going, Going, Gone! - Final issues

... Not to mention a scarcity value, in that the final issues usually had a shorter print run. I have so many final issues, UK and US, which I value more than most first issues. UK issues include Monster Fun 73; the last issue of Whizzer and Chips; last issues of Cheeky Weekly; Whoopee; Jackpot; Wow...

Re: 24-issue subscription for £25 from M&S

Subscriptions are fantastic value. In this weeks issues of Beano (and most weeks) they have the 12 issues for £8 offer – which is superb value. I buy the 9-year old nephew the annual 52-issue Beano subscription from DC Thomson so that he does not miss any issues. For the 11-year old nephew I get him...

Re: 22-years since Marvel UK's Overkill with Motormouth et a

Digital Comics And The future – When I bought those 2 'Revolutionary War' issues, I also received the codes from US Marvel to visit their website and keep a digital issue of each FOC. What do other forum users think of the USA digital comics, and presumably UK ones? I was very impressed and whilst ...

Re: 22-years since Marvel UK's Overkill with Motormouth et a

In fact, they brought many of those characters (Dark Angel, Motormouth & Killpower, the Knights of Pendragon, Digitek, Colonel Tigon Liger and his Warheads, Death's Head and Death's Head II and the Super Soldiers) back early this year in a series called Revolutionary War . It's worth checking out. ...

Re: A strip with a Nag

Towards the end of Jackpot's run there were quite a few reprints maloneymagic, as well as Hee Gee, including Fiends and Nieghbours, The Invisible Monster. Looking at the artwork Big Bear and Shrimp looked like reprints too. It was good to see so many comic strips run in Buster for years after their ...
