Re: Finding supercats stories in Diana

…I’ve just realised the dates mean that they can’t have been in Diana. Maybe in Debbie? Did Supercats appear anywhere else?

Finding supercats stories in Debbie?

Hi folks - I’ve recently been in touch with Fiona (Marian) Turner’s son who is trying to locate some of the Supercats stories she sold to DCT. I’ve found a couple for him in the Spellbound reprints (details below) but can’t identify the rest - can anyone with more knowledge of Debbie (or any other S...

Re: Possession in British Girls' Comics

Thanks so much to everyone for all the story suggestions here. I've been doing a lot of date checking etc and reading up on those I can access. I'm wondering if anyone has any images from The Doll of Terror from Diana c.1968? I think this might be the first supernatural possession (everything I've ...

Re: Possession in British Girls' Comics

Don't forget "Slave of the Clock" from Tammy. https://jintycomic.wordpress.com/2016/04/25/slave-of-the-clock-1982/ . Princess (second series) also had "The Ghostly Ballerina", where the ghost of a frustrated dancer can make mediocre dancers brilliant - but at a terrible price https://jintycomic.wor...

Re: Possession in British Girls' Comics

Misty's "Journey into Fear..." could be described as a blend of possession/evil influence. An evil car, which once belonged to "The Kid", the male half of a brother and sister gangster duo, has the power to seize control of any male who owns it, and make him act like The Kid and re-enact The Kid's ...

Re: Possession in British Girls' Comics

Thank you all for the suggestions (and sorry for delayed reply, I didn't get any email alerts for some reason). Been chatting about this on Facebook as well and seems this theme has no real presence in 50s or early 60s; but then seems to take off around mid-1960s, mostly in Diana. But (Interestingly...

Re: Possession in British Girls' Comics

Another one which may be worth mentioning is "The Strange Ones", about three alien girls who take over a ballet school and its local town. You probably know this, Hypnojoo, from its appearance in Spellbound, but I see that it was originally published in Diana in 1964, which must make it one of the ...

Re: Possession in British Girls' Comics

This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but possession/hypnosis was a fairly regular theme in ballet stories – evil Svengalis who hypnotise dancers for their own ends, shoes which won’t let the wearer stop dancing and so on. I’m struggling to come up with a really distinctive early exampl...

Possession in British Girls' Comics

I'm doing some writing about possession (supernatural, hypnosis) in British girls' comics at the moment - it's going to focus mostly on Spellbound and Misty (where you will be not-at-all-surprised to hear it appears an awful, awful lot!) but would really like to contextualise this within a longer hi...

Re: Seeking 'Phantom of the Fells' (Bunty?)

The article is 1987 (it's from a defunct ZX Spectrum computer magazine) but I don't know if he's still around sorry - not been able to track down much else from/about him but will let you know if I find anything more!

Re: Seeking 'Phantom of the Fells' (Bunty?)

Richardson has said he turned to illustration/comics after trying his hand at being a farmhand and a professional wrestler. I have no idea of truth of this but love it!

Re: Seeking 'Phantom of the Fells' (Bunty?)

He mentions Phantom of the Fells in this interview - http://www.crashonline.org.uk/37/richrdsn.htm.
But agreed re the serials, I think End of the Line is the only one he did in Misty.
