Re: Comics relaunched with a new "first issue"

For US comics pre 84 there was E- man since its original (and best Charlton) incarnation in 73 ish it's had a least 3 new number 1 runs (Comico, digital webbing, First comics etc) - the US is littered with new 1st issue runs (pre 84) some even even shifting publishers more than once like Eman - incl...

Re: Comics relaunched with a new "first issue"

What about Vulcan - it had a few issue run (can't recall the numbers) in Scotland then went UK national (I think) with a new Issue 1 - no/yes? - :coat:

Re: Black humourous funny comic moments in past comics..

Yeah that's right Lew I forgot about that - but for Odhams he was allowed free reign wasn't he ? - I was only kidding re the" PC Brigade" I know thats a "red rag to a bull" for some folk :) - Yeah The Nerves would be good in a mag like Toxic I still think Reid's Frankie Stein strips have a place som...

Re: Black humourous funny comic moments in past comics..

Just about everything Ken Reid did in the 60s for Odhams was dark black comedy - the Nerves in particular had some amazing pieces of art that would never be allowed now (darn PC brigade) with fatty's stomach exploding from eating to much, his entire body system ceasing up form eating to much fat, sw...

Re: What's your least favourite comic strip ever

I used to think that about Look-in as well (was never on my want's list either) but I recently picked up a few tatty issues in a car boot sale that had some stunning art by Martin Ashbury on the Kung Fu tv comic strip and also also some lovely are by Arthur Ranson on Sapphire and Steele - the premis...

Capt Hurricane chew bars?

I realise that in recent years a few of the Beano and Dandy characters have been used to sell food and sweets but I was no aware of the Capt Hurricane Chew bars (see link below) has anyone else seen (tasted) these? are there any other similar items using characters like this from the 60s -70s? http:...

Re: What's your least favourite comic strip ever

Carson's Cubs and Capt Hurricane were in the Lion and Valiant respectively. Capt Hurricane was the main strip in the Valiant for most of its run (from from 62 - 76 -even before my time - well for reading them anyway) and "no serious" war strip that was a tad non PC at times . I hope the link below w...

Re: What's your least favourite comic strip ever

I never liked Carson's Cubs in the Lion, I didn't like the art at all (ok art just not IMHO suited to a football strip) - wasn't keen on Capt Hurricane either (jingoistic to say the least) Never a fan of Paddywack and and Pongo Snodgrass although by then I was about 15 so kids comics were not my thi...
