Commando For Action and Adventure: ANZACS AT WAR

When you say "over here" do you mean in the uk? I've seen this book a couple of times on my travels but i can't remember where. Borders i think at Greenwich SE London. (I got the repro first Dandy and Broons books there a couple of months ago at half price) they have a graphic novels/comic section u...

BBC News Article

I think Lew is being a bit pedantic. We celebrate the date on the cover just like we do with The Beano and Dandy. If you look in The Times "on this day" section in the 4th December 2007 issue it will commemorate the first Dandy as 4th December 1937 (cover date) rather than a few days earlier when it...

I think Desperate Dan stands out above all because unlike his other creations it was such a weird fantasy world (I wonder what Steve Ditko could have done with it). There were so many recurring storylines like the robot teacher (can't remember any others at short notice - please fill in the gaps). I...

LOST OUT ON A BARGAIN?

DOES ANYONE HAVE STORIES OF MISSING OUT ON BARGAIN COMICS? A FEW YEARS AGO AT MY LOCAL ANTIQUE MARKET I PICKED UP DOZENS OF ISSUES OF JINGLES AND TIP TOPS FROM THE 50S IN SUPERB CONDITION - ABOUT 50P EACH! SADLY AT THE SAME MARKET I CAME ACROSS A BOX OF ABOUT 50 DISC AND MUSIC ECHOES POP PAPER FROM ...

Collecting Long runs

OFF TOPIC SLIGHTLY BUT I PICKED UP DOZENS OF ISSUES OF JINGLES AND TIP TOPS FROM THE 50S IN SUPERB CONDITION AT A LOCAL MARKET ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO - ABOUT 50P EACH! SADLY AT THE SAME MARKET I CAME ACROSS A BOX OF ABOUT 50 DISC AND MUSIC ECHOES POP PAPER FROM 1969/70. THE STALLHOLDER SAID HE'D ACCEP...

GRANDPA BROON WIDOWER

I BUY THE SUNDAY POST MOST WEEKS AND REMEMBER A BROONS STRIP RECENTLY WHERE GRANDPA BROONS ALLUDES TO HIS WIFE HAVING DIED SIXTY YEARS AGO. I WAS SLIGHTLY ASTONISHED AS THIS, TO MY MIND, IS THE FIRST INSTANCE OF A CHARACTER IN A HUMOUROUS STRIP REFERING TO A DEATH IN THE FAMILY. AM I RIGHT? AND DOES...

Does anyone remember Super DC?

Yes and that reminds me of Baby Crockett digging a tunnel through the snow from his front door and round in circles until he came back to his front door again. I love the winter in comics. Also Ginger in bed, his bed always looked really cosy.

Does anyone remember Super DC?

I bought the first issue of Super DC and would have got them all if i'd known it would only last 12 issues. I think Dennis Gifford did some cartoons and Mick Anglo's name cropped up i think. It's one of those old comics that never seems to turn up anywhere not even on ebay. Was a good idea and even ...

Fantastic 40th anniversary

I photocopied some of the Barry Smith pin-ups on the back cover of Fantastic and sent them to Rascally Roy Thomas for inclusion in his Alter Ego magazine as it might be of interest to American readers who'd never seen them. Barry might object though so they may not appear - I don't know what sort of...

Mike Noble article in Elephantmen 6

The first comic i ever collected was TV21 and I loved Mike Noble's art. His Fireball XL5 was so easy on the eye. Especially remember those snowmen and the giant animals and insects. When he worked for Look-In he drew Follyfoot I think which I considered a waste of his talent - although some might sa...

Commando-more reprint issues?

I've just received the latest Commandos and two of them were reprints. Nothing unusual there except for the fact that two of the last lot were reprints too! It looks like they may have gone from six new titles out of eight each month to four out of eight. It could have been then dreaded deadline doo...

TV COMIC

I remember missing the last issue of TV Comic and so wrote to the editor offering to pay for a copy, he sent me a copy of the last issue for free and enclosed a letter saying how angry he was that the comic had been discontinued. I still have the letter but it is in storage. During the seventies whe...
