Re: Need help identifying a Reg Smythe daily strip feature

The copyright BULLS could suggest it was from John Bull magazine which was still going up to the early sixties. I've asked my mate Steve to check as he collects John Bull magazine and may also have Reg Smythe's biography.

Re: Not just any old East London pie and mash shop

I had a chat with the owner George Manze last Saturday and said I remembered his mum serving me in the late sixties/early seventies. He said she's still with us! Must be nearly ninety. The shop has been there for 120 years. (Cold turkey is reserved for boxing day with mash and Haywards mustard pickl...

Re: Lockdown rambles ( without pics.)

I leave for Kempton Park at around 8.30am and don't get home until about 2.30pm without once needing a toilet. Why do people have such weak bladders? I used to arrive at work around 9.30am and not use the toilet until about 5.30pm. I could have been a superhero. Look its Super Bladder Man! See how h...

Re: Lockdown rambles ( without pics.)

Yes I'm hoping Antique fairs will be open as they are open air markets. Kempton Park beckons. I've used lockdown to index comics onto Grand Comics Database. Added the last three of my Alan Class comics this morning.

Re: Not just any old East London pie and mash shop

I went to Deptford High Street and found the pie and mash shop was trading again albeit take-away only through the window. Had pie, mash and liquor for tea for the first time in weeks. Cold turkey over.

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???

I was ready to bid £200.00 on these comics as Captain America Comics #2 was included. But a few minutes before it ended I decided to make sure the comic wasn't reprinted. Sure enough in the early seventies there was a series of 38 golden age reprints called the Alan Light Flashback series. The origi...

Hi, Ramon. Are you the same Ramon who works on Grand Comics Database? I'm Steve Mitchell who contributes to that website. I've indexed a couple of comics today. One thing the lockdown is good for. Apologies for going off topic.

Weekly News to cease publication.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the headline today. I've been buying it for fifty years although it has been hard to find in the past few. Only yesterday I received three vintage issues from eBay two of which had Black Bob strips. It was nowhere near as good as it used to be as it had lost a lot ...

Re: Restoration

If you mean physical restoration I repair edge tears with a thin piece of magic tape which is virtually invisible once applied. Also if a spine is frayed I cut the spine from a newspaper and pritstick it around the area. The newsprint will, over time, yellow and match the comic. I also keep a set of...

Re: Micron Combat Library

Just checked Commando on GCD and pleased to see almost every issue has been indexed. Someone has been busy. It takes me over an hour to index a single British comic issue when they have twenty or more different strips like Whizzer and Chips.
