Looks like he's not been picked up by Marvel.

Yet.

Re: Nursery rhyme and Folklore strips

Fables is aimed at an older age range than the comics shown (it even has a tie-in novel, which - for once - actually has a point in existing*), but it keeps the characters in line with many of the fables, myths and short stories they are taken from. I vaguely remember a magazine (late 80s) which co...

Re: Marvel to Republish Miracleman...and Conclude it!

Oh, and maybe I should have said Marvel UK is returning. Death's Head is the main confirmation (although I was never a fan - let's hope for the Knights of Pendragon as it was conceived in volume 1 - not those silly armoured knights). If they bring back the ecological issues and important storylines...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

I seem to recall there being a horrendous number of frames on a single page of Ken Reid art (my mind may be playing tricks on me, but I swear he crammed thirty panels into some of those pages), yet some modern comic strips can seem... well, spartan. BTW, those text stories in old issues of the Beano...

Re: Marvel to Republish Miracleman...and Conclude it!

The original MM, even though I have a fondness for it, is simplistic stuff. If the alternative to simplistic is a "mini-series" which requires forty-odd comics in addition to the main series simply to understand what the hell is going on, then I'll take simplistic. :) And there is all the talk of a...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

Though you probably can extend it wider to assume that probably all art forms, in the form we know them, are to a greater extent "doomed." I don't know if anyone here went to see the Three Graces when it was on show - I happened to have the misfortune of admiring it when some schoolchildren -...

Re: Marvel to Republish Miracleman...and Conclude it!

Not in the numbers needed to sustain a title, but there are children being brought up with an appreciation of proper art and literature - I spent an entire day explaining proportions, perspective and line widths to my niece, and she got it. Kids aren't stupid, but most (if I'm brutally honest, nearl...

Re: Recent and New TV Programs..

What do people think of S.H.E.I.L.D then. I came to a realization about ten minutes from the end of the second episode, and have yet to see anything to prove me wrong - we shouldn't be watching the episodes on their own merits, but as breadcrumbs for future stories. Joss is planting seeds. Whether ...

We went from "are weekly comics doomed" to "is society doomed" in a few posts...

Re: Marvel to Republish Miracleman...and Conclude it!

Makes it all the weirder, unless we get a standalone Miracleman story and a Marvelman 'Avenger' in the Marvel Universe. Ugh. No, no, no, no, no. If they fold the character into the MU then any interest I have in the future of the character will dissolve in an instant. The only way that I can see th...

Re: Marvel to Republish Miracleman...and Conclude it!

As interesting a prospect as seeing how the story ends, I would rather see more of the original Marvelman stories collected. There is some great artwork which has been overlooked in those comics - the sequence of issues where he fights in WWII is as beautiful and strange as anything from that period.

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

A magazine is, in my dictionary, 'a publication containing miscellaneous articles by different writers'. I think it's broadened out even more nowadays (old dictionary) but importantly it's characterised by this 'miscellany':- a hotch-potch of different things, puzzles, quizzes, short stories, whate...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

comics are a form of magazine for children :soapbox: Some comics are a form of magazine for children. The medium is not the genre, however, and such a definition excludes zines, underground comics, a swathe of Hunt Emerson's work, a lot of Trident's comics, Savoy's output, and ignores the earliest ...

Re: Are weekly comics doomed?

The feeling I get from the title - and you can correct me if I am wrong - is that there is a sense of inevitability about the disappearance of the weeklies. That looming d-word, towering over anything else. It may be me reading too much into the thread (and after the seven pages of comments here, I ...

Re: Dreams and Nightmares.

I don't hold on to dreams any more - probably because of a mix of sleeping problems (I am posting this at 3am) - but I remember when I was a kid having vivid and realistic nightmares of people all dropping dead around me. There was also a dream where the ground was shaking violently, and cracks appe...
