Re: Strip Magazine - Who's buy the first issue?
I don't really see the comic shop only sales being a problem its not intended to be long term (till March 2012 then its newsagents) I can see a few folk picking this up in comic shops - the 3 comic shops in Glasgow ( so imagine its the same with many others) sell with Archie comics, Mad, Marvel Adve...

Re: Strip Magazine - Who's buy the first issue?
Very much looking forward to Strip - I think this could be a massive title for UK comics if it succeeds with its format (all ages adventure) it may herald a change in content for UK newsagents comics (IMHO that is something I think they need) fingers crossed for it.

Re: The Children's Newspaper
I remember being given copies to read at School but don't remember comic strips either - I found it being very "dry" - I much preferred Look and Learn (although a different type of publication) for my educational requirements back then

Re: Writing an article on British adventure comics
Phoenix (not FelneyMike duh! sorry about that) Comics Heroes is available in W H Smiths and most specialist shops - the current issue (with Superman on the cover) hasn't got a lot on UK comics in the main magazine BUT the free poster has a massive full colour Hunt Emerson Frankenstein strip (the rea...

Re: Writing an article on British adventure comics
FelnyMike - Lew's article appeared in issue 2 of Comic Heroes - there a link to this on Lew's amazing blog (which has a fantastic article on UK comics the current front page) Comic Heroes is a plush expensive mag (£7>99 an issue) 90% USA comics but has the odd UK gem in it http://lewstringer.blogspo...

Re: Altered Artwork.
re altered art wasn't the US strip "Killraven" redrawn to have all the original mutants look like apes and the character changed to "Ape-slayer" for the UK "Planet of the Apes" comic?

Re: ABCs for Jan-Jun 2011 - disappointing results...
I agree that the Simpson's, Disney comics etc get a massive promotional boost from tv/films etc but that's because the cartoons , toys, films etc are the main areas/subject matter - in these cases the comic is the spin off based only on the cartoon , toy etc- the Dandy is just a comic it has no film...

Re: Your first Comic Strip...
I remember reading a big book of children's stories as a kid (4 or 5 years old) that contained a cross between text stories with pictures and comic strip - the one that sticks out very clearly was a Ken Reid strip that I later (much later) found out was from his Fudge the Elf series (Fudge and the D...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I picked up the latest issue of Comic Heroes - for me not a great issue as I wasn't that keen/interested in most of the contents but it did have a massive poster size comic strip of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein by Hunt Emerson (flip side of this s a Slain poster) which was really good - overall at £7....

Re: ABCs for Jan-Jun 2011 - disappointing results...
Would be really interesting to know how bad distribution really is - I honestly find the Dandy (Beano, and Commando comics) everywhere I go (2000ad in most Smiths as well but that seems to be the only place its available up here) - I'm in London pretty regularly and see DCTs big 2 at least in Smiths...

Re: Scotland World Champions 2011
Rangers and Celtic can't afford the Larsons etc of yesteryear there's just not enough money in the SPL to fund that type of player now (the old firms top salary is £25k a week in England's Premiership and Championship that's nothing) sadly they make most of their money from "bums on seats" and merch...

Re: Scotland World Champions 2011
Yeah its not good up here at present although the National team is on the up and it looks like Celtic will get through as Sion played 5 ineligible players - a few pundits are trying to use the fact that the gulf in spending is to blame for it and that's true to a point (look and Man City crushing Sp...
