Re: World Cup comics?
There were certainly WC strips in Tiger and Roy of the Rovers (see link below) but I cant recall many specific strips following the WC in a strip from start to finish (other than the one page historical/factual strips that appeared in the in the Tiger in the 70s etc) and a World Cup Willie (England ...

Re: People who don't like comics
You have to admit if you are being honest and objective, that if you tell people as a big 30 plus hairy year old grown up that you still read the Beano you have to accept you'll get a strange(and to me understandable) reaction (as long ass its not offensive) and folk in general don't see too much of...

Re: Best-ever Lineup in a Single Comic
Has to be IPCs relaunch of Smash in 1970s great line up of strips (new and reprint) and great artists including Leo Baxendales stellar Swots and the Blotts , and Sams Ghost, Don Lawrence on Erik the Viking, Janus Starrk, His Sporting Lordship, and the Fighting three by Carlos Cruz (he did other amaz...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I picked up a few comics over the weekend , was at the Panopticon comic mart in Glasgow on Saturday had the option of Beezer 1968 annual for £2 but didn't pick it up as was over my limit by time I saw it (trying to slim down my collection!) but got; Savage Sword of Conan 4 (Neal Adams, Gil Kane art)...

Re: MCM; Collectormania; Panopticon, Glasgow
Thanks again for the info on the Panopticon event managed to get 3 comics/mags (including a nice copy of "Savage Sword of Conan" 4 with Adams/Kane art for £5) I was after all very reasonable prices plus a few old "House of Mystery", "Witching Hours" and a run of " Seduction of the Innocents" comics ...

Re: Humour, adventure, or both?
I actually tried to track down a copy of the "Phoenix" at the weekend and went (via 2 trains ok 1 train 1 and subway train) to the West end of Glasgow to Waitrose (last I read they stocked it) and not a copy to be found I asked and they hadn't heard of it and suggested the Beano (still I got some ni...

Re: Humour, adventure, or both?
Its got to be the mix of strips for me in the style of Buster, Wham, Smash etc I thin the all humour approach of todays Beano is missing something even an adventure cartoon style strip would be good (IMHO)

Re: MCM; Collectormania; Panopticon, Glasgow
I missed the Collectormania event I'm afraid - from the press ads it seemed to be more of a TV/Movie event, looks like it was my loss - Will definitely try to get to the Memeorabilia fair though - had no idea there was a regular monthly event in the city centre thanks for that info (probably wont ha...

Re: Leo Baxendale - what was his best style?
Some of the "Swots and the Blots" (his "looser" style) from Smash (the IPC version where I think he unveiled this version/style of his work) are to me some of the best humour strips ever created - he kept up that amazing amount of "fun" in his art (along with some fantastic cartooning on the underra...

Re: super heroes animation
I wasn't aware of that Marionette thanks for the info (Orange, Indigo and Purple etc lol) - to add to the good cartoons worth checking out, although its not a super hero but Samurai Jack is another that is well worth looking out for (and its on Cartoon Network at 9:30pm in the UK) excellent stuff.

Re: British Marvel mags of the '70s - which one was best?
For me it was the Mighty World of Marvel the pure excitement of seeing this in the first place, featuring the early Spider-man, FF and Hulk (the Daredevil etc) I thought this book was on top form for nearly 2 years worth of issues showing Kirby's (etc) great work on FF, Trimpe and Severin's work on ...

Re: Another comic bites the dust
I was also put off with the stupid title he gave the book and I doubt the casual reader got it - I certainly wasn't a great fan of CLint to begin with but enjoyed it after the refresh (vol 2) and loved the new format with the larger pages, non glossy paper and articles etc - I do like Millars work (...
