Future Tense

Though reprints, it was the first time I had ever read these strips, so for me it was all new, and as a child I loved sci-fi, buying ever issue with my hard-earned newspaper round money, including when it went monthly. I like the Micronauts so much I bought a couple of their figures [not realising t...

Cheeky's Snail

'Snail of the Century' was the name of Cheeky's Snail's all-colour back page. He met his friends in the garden: Mole; Rabbit; his snail nephew and many others - to share jokes and rhymes with them (even if in real life they would have eaten him!). I don't think the snail ever had a name, and usually...

Wow, was good fun (& collectable) 1982-3

Though short lived [just over a year making it a manageable title by collecting standards], some of the strips lived on for a while longer in Whoopee / Whizzer+Chips / and Buster. Creepy Comix, became one of the top strips; also popular was Family Trees (in colour - unheard of for the time); Boy Bos...

Your right Lew - thanks. Who needs Dr Who's Tardis for time travel. :)

Nostalgist or not??

1) Would have to be a one day type comic convention to attend. Would love to see any artists and writers who are still alive from the 1970s and 1980s (most must be retired - Reg Parlett was in his 80's in the 1980s I think), people like John Stokes, Dave Gibbons, yourself Lew, Ezquera, Scott Goodall...

Is anyone still reading 2000AD?

I was an avid reader from Prog. 175 to prog 900 (Meltdown Man was my all time fave story :) ), but stopped due to being a bit disillusioned with story quality. Did chat someone at "The Cartoon Museum" in Little Russell Street, who was in his thirties and still had a subscription to it, apparently al...

Space problems

Over the years I have 'pruned down' my collection to just 1,900 selective issues (which take up space in 11 smallish boxes). At one point I had nearly 10,000 ? they took up far too much space. :( So over the years I've sold many at my Mum's and Dad's car boot sales, and the more valuable ones on eba...

BBC Worldwide

I did a freelancing stint at BBC Worldwide [though working in a different department], the comic is a massive seller for them (sometimes 120,000 sales per issue - which is more than most 2000ad's at their most popular). Sales sometimes speak for themselves.

Protective Sleeves for oversize comics

"Old size 2000ad" bags are the best for the IPC / Fleetway comics. Acid free ones are good for the comic paper (often poor quality). Ideally though they should be stored at room temperature. NOT in the loft, where the temperature can be too cold - though this saves space elsewhere.

I have issue one - worth owt?

I saw the LAST ever issue go for ?40 on ebay at the beginning of 2007, though some issues only ever get very small bids on ebay, probably the condition is important and if you still have the free gift, worth keeping for nostalgic reasons though.

Tammy Comic was good

Yes I remember this, my grandad used to buy it for me and my sister. Lots of comics like Jinty and Misty merged with it. Pam of Pond Hill (a bit like Grange Hill) and Bella (a fantastic gymnast who used to do a window cleaning round to earn cash) were some of the longer running early 1980s story's. ...

Drawing comics: help please!

Surely a lot of new illustrators must be using 'adobe photoshop' more and more, and other programs for illustration / colour purposes. One of the things I found doing a graphic design degree (17 years ago now), was that all the illustrators were very good (and only just starting to use computers too...
