Excellent! Some of that material is still funny even today, and the artwork is superb. Well done!Hawkeye wrote:Got a smashing bound volume of Ally Sloper's Half-Holiday from 1886, numbers 88-113. Some really fantastic covers.

Great stuff. Somewhat rough and ready but good boisterous fun and very 1960s.stevezodiac wrote:Picked up 34 issues of Smash! (Pre Smash! & Pow!) for £90 at the ephemera fair yesterday.

Re: Yvonne Hutton
This morning I came across a Roy of the Rovers strip from the Daily Star dated 1991. The art is by Yvonne Hutton. It's unusual to see a female artist drawing a football strip. Does anyone know anything about her? She drew Roy of the Rovers in Tiger for many years, Steve, and other strips. Plenty ab...

I've heard that happens, (shill bidding), although we can't say for sure that's the case here of course.starscape wrote:So you get your friend to go higher and higher. If you go over, you contact the loser and say the other one has pulled out, can we settle?

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???
It does raise the eyebrows. Loved Star*Lord but the annuals were pretty poor. From the bidding history it looks like the winning bidder had bid a high price expecting no one to come close to it, and one other person posted numerous bids, so the price kept climbing. Hmmm. Moral of the story: Don't p...

Re: Full 2018 schedule for Treasury of British Comics
I'd love to see Pat Mills rewriting the WW2 section the way he originally intended. It wouldn't be the same without Joe but I'm sure one of Rebellion's 2000AD artists could do a decent job. Do you know why Pat didn't write the sequel? From an interview with Pat Mills: "Joe needed to keep it going, ...

My letter was edited to about two thirds it's original length. I wonder if there are any special 80th birthday celebrations planned? Lew? They don't tell us anything I'm afraid. Big Eggo is back this week though. You would think they would considering they did for The Dandy . I'm sure they will cel...

Re: Smash! comic the swots and the blots- Leo Baxendale
Love to see the first Swots and the blots can anyone put it up here.. :D did Leo just draw 1 or 2 at the beginning before Ron Spencer took over? I know Ron drew from issue 10 which is what I have.. They changed the artists quite often in those days. Odhams comics were a merry go round of artists. O...

Re: Charley's War (WW2)
A pity as I quite liked it. I agree that it did seem to end suddenly before going back the beginning in the form of a recap. As if it was decided that WW2 story was not working out (or to save money) and so went to reprinting the older stories instead. As I recall it was because Joe wasn't well so ...

Re: Big Eggo returns!
Thanks folks. Over the years I've worked on a few of their characters that originated in the 1930s; Korky, Julius Sneezer, Keyhole Kate, Lord Snooty, and now Big Eggo! Thomsons produced some good characters that can work in any decade!

Re: Full 2018 schedule for Treasury of British Comics
yeah I am wondering what they will do with Jonny Red I am contemplating getting the other Titan volumes as they are quite handsomely done, (more so than Titans Charleys war) but I dont want them to stop reprinting halfway in. As far as I know, Titan won't be doing any more Battle reprints now that ...
