Re: DANDY SUMMER SPECIAL
Picked up a copy this week and saw the cover price of 2.99 and dropped it like a hot brick. It only seemed to have about 24 pages! Since when is a free gift free when you've paid about thirty bob for it? I mean the comic itself is nowhere near worth 2.99 so you are actually paying for the free gift....

Re: The first female artist in a DC Thomson comic.
I do remember reading of a female artist a few years ago and I think she worked on the Dandy. I cut out the article which I think appeared in the Weekly News. Her name may have been Woodard, there is a cartoonist who signs herself Woody in those single panel cartoons in the Weekly News. Her cartoons...

Re: DANDY SUMMER SPECIAL
I saw an ad for it in this weeks Weekly News and was put off by the depiction of Dan on the cover, but I will buy it now on your recommendations. I was just wondering today if Thomsons will admit defeat and relaunch the Dandy in its more traditional comic style.

Re: Dennis Gifford's cartoon work
Although it only lasted about a dozen issues I think Gifford did some stuff in Super DC. He also published his own fanzine during the 70s which i subscribed to. It was called ACE (Association of Comic Enthusiasts?)

They must have had something going for them because when I was married my wife, who had no interest in comics, really looked forward to the Broons Book.

Re: I got an original Keyhole Kate strip!
Yes it probably was - he engaged in some banter with me so i'm honoured. Funnily enough at the fair i saw a copy of their book Comics and Nostalgia and, seeing Mike Higg's name, thought to myself, I wonder what became of him? Now I know. Grateful for your input, Lew. I'm just about to scan another p...

Re: The dc thomson bumper fun book
I got it decades ago and it is a weird shape, sort of like those War Picture Library Summer Specials, tall and narrow. Not sure what the content was now as haven't looked at it for about 25 years. I also managed to wangle a copy of the Daily Telegraph magazine from about 1974 where a reporter went u...

Don't know why but mention of David Law made me think of Steve Ditko. Both truly unique styles?

Re: I got an original Keyhole Kate strip!
There was a tall grey haired chap of about 65 chatting to Phil Clarke, would that have been Mr Hanson? The Parlets were a page of Rent a Ghost and a page of The Happy Family. He had another Happy Family page but i wanted two different examples. Just got seven comics from the 1930s today which i paid...

Re: I got an original Keyhole Kate strip!
Further to the above I got the artwork fro Phil Clarke, I wasn't sure whether to buy the Parlett pages or some Tom Paterson. He had some early Paterson School Belle art. Which would you have gone for? There was also a very nice page of Norman Mansbridge, maybe next time.

I got an original Keyhole Kate strip!
I went to the Comic Mart at Bloomsbury yesterday and the first thing I saw was an original Keyhole Kate strip by Allan Morley. It was only 75 quid so I snapped it up. Also got two whole pages of Reg Parlett from the 1972 Buster book. Here's the Keyhole Kate, had to scan it in two halves. You'll noti...

Re: Quiz Guess the Comic
I remember Whoopee had a guest cartoonist page where a full page was given over to a readers attempt at doing his own comic strip. I wonder if any of them ever became professional.

Re: The sunday post fun section
I discovered the Sunday Post in 1974 and cut out the Fun Section every week for about eight years and then sporadically. I have them all in storage with most of my comic collection. I still buy it now and cut out the Fun Sections but not every week - i'm not that fond of the current artist. His styl...

Re: Iconic Britain search.
As a born and bred Londoner i'd also nominate Pie, mash and liquor (which i'll probably enjoy a plate of tomorrow - sloo!). Bill Gates wouldn't like that as it's an acquired taste and you need to be weaned on it. No doubt one of you from oop north would nominate tripe. Bleugh! But seriously folks, I...
