Re: I don't know what to call this thread

I love Routemasters and always have a ride on the No. 15 when I'm in London. The first few times I visited 30th Century Comics, were on a Routemaster from nr. Piccadilly Circus all the way to Putney - and back. There are a couple of old Routemasters in Edinburgh, used as tour or party buses. Mind, r...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???

Same here, but I had to give up reading comics a year or two later as my mother decided school came first and it was about time I grew up. Never lost my interest and I soon took up buying and reading when I got married. A great hobby, and there's so much to discover, still.

Glasgow Comic Con

Some of you might be interested in this as there is British talent on show. Also, with any luck, there might actually be dealers with stuff I fancy buying. Link to details follows, and if any of you decide to turn up, it'd be nice to meet and chat. Anyway we always need someone to stop Colin bouncin...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

OOOOOOH-errr, abacus. Shurely shome mishtake! I read CB+ comics using my Samsung tablet, but I download the files first and once on my tablet, I read them with perfect viewer, probably the best of the comic reader apps. What are you using as a reader? Or are you simply reading on the CB+ page...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Had I just looked on CB+, I'd have found out those artists for myself. Even worse, I was signed into CB+ when I posted that i.d. Pills, is it? I need a bit more than pills. By the way, many Blackhawk stories were drawn by Reed Crandall, and I have to say, they are rather tasty to look at. Give them ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Nope, I Haven't seen the book before, so you're not alone. But what a great cover. Jack Davis was a bit of a genius, working for EC and, of course, Mad. Also, 2 early Quality comics, Military Comics and Blackhawk. Need a bit of help here. Is that a Chuck Cuidera cover? And is the part of a page besi...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Oh yes indeed. But The Shadow stories were a relatively small part of The Thriller. Individual thrillers plus series such as The Saint; Mr. J.G. Reeder; Mr. Preed; Blackshirt etc. were the vast majority of content and they were all British. I can't recommend strongly enough the J.G. Reeder stories b...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Interesting back cover, that, as I hadn't realised that T&P had reprinted The Spider pulps. I knew, and actually have a few, that there were British reprints of The Phantom Detective, another long running American pulp. As you say, not comics. But some of them have really good, atmospheric illustrat...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Adam, the G8 is a British reprint of an American pulp, which had a long run in the U.S. There was a Gold Key comic of G8 in 1966, which was distributed in U.K. Unfortunately, I have no idea of how many issues of the British pulp were issued. As for Space Aces, as Lew says, it's a nice book to have a...

Re: Falkirk Comic Mini Mart

Well, it was a mini-mart but that didn't stop a few members of comicsuk getting together for coffee, buns and chat. I met early on with starscape and my pal, Vince in Antonio's in the town, then we went to the mart where we met Colin. Mind, I think Colin was more excited about the pile of earlyish C...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Hope you don't mind me coming back to this. I've had a read at Eagle #1 and Lion #1 and you're right, there are more comic strip pages in Lion. Lion # 1 was 2 years after Eagle #1. Happily owning up to being a big Captain Condor fan and a bit of a nut for Robot Archie, there is a distinct difference...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Assuming koollectablz isn't talking about the Rural Home Eagle - the American comic, is it collections of the original, landmark, innovative Eagle which appeared in 1950? If so, I'm surprised at his reaction. Apart from the printing and paper which were streets ahead of Lion and Valiant, the quality...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???

While I used to love finding comic racks and spinners full of comics in local newsagents, I quickly realised that the bottom of the comic was often damaged, just by it sitting on 2 narrow pieces of metal.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

OOOH-ERR, missus, just look at that. Australian? S.A.? But it's a sum I don't recognise from other commonwealth comics. No, I'm wrong. Too late for an Aus. comic.
Couldn't be, could it?
