Re: Victor Summer Special missing issues - help required please.
victorhornet, did you find all the summer specials you needed in the end? I've just discovered five Victor summer specials in my basement, including 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991, that I could summarise for you.

Re: Buster's Dad
Thank you Niblet for saying what I was about to say. Besides, the "son of Andy Capp" stuff was dropped when Reg Smythe had something to say about it (or so I read). By the time Reg Parlett was drawing her, Buster's Mum bore no resemblance to Florrie from the Daily Mirror besides the hairstyle and he...

Re: Keyhole Kate
Never liked Keyhole Kate (unbelievably limited premise for such a long-running strip) and yet I have to admit that cover strip looks great. Morley's artwork looks so much better in full colour.

Re: Tamara Drewe
Well, let's face it, the film's NEVER as good as the book, is it? At least in a cinema audience we can laugh out loud in unison at the genius of Posy Simmonds rather than quietly to ourselves at home.

Re: Now you're squawking!
The legend of the Bash Street Birds is a (brilliant) spoof of the legend of the ravens of the Tower of London, in case anyone doesn't realise it. Found another one in the 1989 Bash Street Kids annual: http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h162/iancockburn/img047.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h16...

Re: 2011 Annual Covers
Less enticing if you already have The History Of The Beano which reprints the entire first issue, of course.Raven wrote:If you buy your Beano Annual in Sainsbury's (£5), you get an exclusive-to-them free issue one of The Beano with it. Not an original, though. It looks like it's printed on card-type paper.

Re: clips from BBC's Arena - The Dandy and Beano story from 1988
Well, I saw this at the time when I was ten and it was a big deal for me to stay up late and watch my favourite comics being recognised and discussed on an adult arts programme. (I also loved the theme music by Brian Eno). It's great to see it again, despite the uncomfortableness of the staff behind...
