Re: Original comic art

Hi Peter - Thanks for your interest. My collection has been put together over time from a number of different auction houses and sites. There's not been any one particular place or person. I've wanted to share them with everyone here for a while now but been a little shy of simply starting a thread ...

Re: Do young people enjoy the Beano in 2013

I've tried the Beano with my 6 year old daughter. She liked it but hasn't asked for it since. Instead she likes fluffy pink pet magazines. My 4 year old son doesn't see past the free gift so he'll ask for the Ben 10 comic (or more precisely the shooter/communicator/mobile - take your pick) but is un...

Re: Original comic art

Thanks for your comments, Stingray & Lew. Lew, like you I was tempted to see what Gus may have looked like but the paste is too strong. I like the idea of a strong light though so next time I have it in my hands I'll do that and let you know. Stingray, Mike Lacey was so prolific on the key covers. H...

Re: Original comic art

From 1970, the original front cover of Cor!! No.1.

I like covers and have always been on the look out for them. Too often the logo is missing as it would be ripped off and placed on the following issue so it's nice to have this one complete.

Re: Original comic art

Accompanying my Action No.1 front cover, here's another page from my vault - the first appearance of HookJaw.

Not a particularly good photo of it but you can see how he get's his hook.

Re: Original comic art

Keeping to Brian's work, here is the pencil rough for the iconic 2000 AD Prog 2000. It's about A4 size and on very thin paper. It appears in its own right as part of an article on the creation of the cover inside the comic.

Re: Original comic art

Thanks Andy - I didn't know that

After I bought the Dredd page, the next piece of art really committed me to finding other quality pages.

This is the front cover to the first issue of Action - or Action '76 as it was nearly called:

Re: Original comic art

Thanks Phil. Yes - McMahon.

Take a look at that last speech bubble. The printed version praises 2000ad but this original has a snarling critical Dredd. A late change but I prefer this one.

Re: Original comic art

Success! This is the back page to 200AD Prog 20 - a nice Judge Dredd page with the recovery of some comic slugs from a detained perp

Re: Original comic art

Nice collection Chris. With so many pages having been destroyed it's always great to see what's survived.

I haven't got a CAF page but I can post a few from my collection on here over the next few evenings.

First off the one that got my collection going:

Re: Pluck!

If I remember correctly, this is the companion paper to Courage which was another Miller story paper. No comic strips in Courage and my copy is not immediately to hand but I think it packed up immediately after launch! This is the first time I've seen the cover to Pluck and there must be only a hand...
