Re: British comics adapted into live action film and TV
V For Vendetta (well, it was originally a British comic) Posy Simmonds's Tamara Drewe and Gemma Bovery I know 2000AD was given a blanket mention, but Judge Dredd maybe deserves highlighting. Barry Humphreys's Barry McKenzie looking up that last one to verify it, I see that another Private Eye strip...

Re: What kind of fan are you?
The crowd at this site mainly seem to be fans of IPC and DC Thompson humour titles, so I guess maybe that reflects most British comics fans of a certain age? I think it's the just the way the forum has turned out. Lots of existing discussions about those comics leads to more fans of those comics jo...

Re: What kind of fan are you?
I have been to three conventions- One in Bristol years ago, and twice ( or was it thrice?) to the Leeds Thought Bubble. I am glad to have met Eddie Campbell and Posy Simmonds. I had a good time at all three but they were expensive and not the kind of thing I feel like doing all the time. I often fee...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I agree :) Her 'Tamara Drew' and 'Gemma Bovery' are must-reads too. Yes, those appeared in The Guardian . I should really have cut every instalment out. Are they now in book form? Yes, they exist as graphic novels :) A movie was even made from 'Tamara Drew' but I thought it was kind of dumbed down ...

Re: Sparky Book 1979
I can reassure Raven that the Sparky book 1979 has no "this book belongs to" page.
edited to add: you don't need to count all the pages, just count 16 pages (including cover) and the next page should have a "B" in one of the corners.

Well, we know he was a perfectionist, but he doesn't seem to be a laggard in this 1959 annual. Although I'm sure he didn't do the Plum/Bears endpapers.ISPYSHHHGUY wrote:One DCT Editor informed me that Baxendales' page output was pretty low compared to many other artists:

Little Plum
I just got the Beano Book 1959, by far the earliest one in my collection. There are several things that interest me about it, one of which is the prominence of Little Plum. There are more stories about him in it than any other character (4), and more pages (9), without mentioning the endpapers. Plus...

Re: Name That Tune
Transvision Vamp did a rather nice song called "Hanging Out With Halo Jones". Transvision Vamp, that's a blast from the past and no mistake. I particularly liked their I Want Your Love . There were a number of contemporaries with memorable songs too, such as T'Pau, Pet Shop Boys , The Bangles, Vane...
