Re: Steve Larrabee in Rover

Hi Paw, I have 'Trek of the Homeless Ones' Rover 1659 - 1670 as being drawn by Ron Embleton. I very much doubt that it was created especially for the story paper and was most likely bought in as a reprint from elsewhere. I seem to remember Norman Wright and David Ashford mentioning this strip in an ...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???

It's been working all week, was fine this morning, and earlier this afternoon, and indeed this evening. To make absolutely sure, I've just bought a novel from an eBay seller. Given that Kashgar resides in the frozen North, and Steve in London, perhaps it has something to do with the scorching sun c...

Logged onto eBay this morning to find the format has changed and it's now a complete mess. Anybody else having trouble wondering what the hell is going on?
It's been like this for at least a few days. Absolutely agree that it is a complete mess.

Re: Our Colin (aka colcool007)

This is terrible news. Heartfelt condolences to Karen and his family. Colin's passing is a great loss to the world of comic collecting and comic research. He was a true enthusiast whose love of the subject was truly inspiring to those that knew him down the years. He never lost his passion for comic...

Re: Looking For UK Comic Character

You could be describing 'The Shrinker' which ran in Buster comic in five series from 29/6/63 until 16/1/65 with art by Mike Western and Carlos Cruz and scripted by Tom Tully and which was then reprinted in Valiant 2/6/68 to 10/1/70.

Re: Jumping Frog

Hi Steve, this is definitely not a Dandy comic free gift. As you rightly point out these Derringer pistols we're often the easily concealed weapon of choice of the nattily dressed, dandified gamblers who frequented Mississippi River boats to whom style and the cut of their clothes meant a great deal...

Re: My Grandfather was the artist behind Cap'n Hood

Thanks Dishes for reminding me that Cap'n Hood did feature in the 1980 Sparky Book. I didn't check that far. Two of his original 1969 strips were reprinted in the book, in full colour, as they had originally appeared.

Re: Seeking Dandy 531 - 1st episode of Pobble

Hi Pobblehunter, You're right about Willie Willikin's Pobble not appearing in the Dandy for long, only in issues 531-553. There are a couple of these issues available on eBay at the moment for 13 pounds each plus postage but as the Pobble also appeared in the Dandy Annuals for 1953 and 1954 maybe it...

Re: Film Fun annual 1939 sought

Hi Richard, I do have the annual in question but no scanning facilities I'm afraid. I imagine the photo story in question must be 'The Singular Case of Professor Lewdroc' which features Film Fun editor Fred Cordwell as the eonymous professor and also his editorial assistant Phil Davis and junior sub...

Re: My Grandfather was the artist behind Cap'n Hood

Thanks for the details on your Grandad, Max. It's not too surprising that you've not come across Cap'n Hood though Col as the strip only ran for 20 weeks in Sparky even though it was printed on full colour on the back page. It ran from No 212 (8/2/69) to No 231 (21/6/69) and it never appeared in the...

Re: Beryl the Peril and the Numskulls in the Funday Times

I have a complete run of Topper so if anyone has the relevant editions of the Funday Times it could be done. As I recall the Funday Times Beryl strips were from the late 1960's and early 1970's. The Beryl strips in the Topper comic were always in full colour Steve although when reprinted in the 13 B...
