Re: 1964 reprint this month.
This month's Commandos all have a D-Day theme and I noticed one of them is a reprint from 1964. It looks exactly like a current issue inside which just shows that Commando has never really changed in over 40 years. I have. I'm still in shock over the fact that there's a real advertisement in the ba...

Re: DFC To Be Relaunched?
Interesting it had 3000 subscribers.. I wonder if that's the number of subscribers it had when it folded or the cumulative amount? I had a 6-month sub but let it lapse at Christmas. FWIW I never had any problem with the subsription serivice - it was there on my doormat every Friday, which is saying...

Re: Roy of the Rovers, Battle, Misty and Buster back on shelves
Whereabouts in W. H. Smith is it being stocked - in among all the kiddie comics? I haven't noticed it myself. It is in with the football mags in my nearest one - that's the Stratford, E.London branch. Some years back I picked up a large size (think Guinness book of Records) book of Roy of the Rover...

Re: DFC RIP
I'm certain the problem wasn't that kids didn't like it Peter, it was more the dual issues of making them aware that it existed in the first place (very hard without a MASSIVE marketing budget), and then persuading the parents to part with the cash for it. I'm with Laura on this. I gave copies to g...

Re: The DFC on sale at Tesco NEXT WEEK - 1 week only
I managed to grab a copy. The Tescos in Leytonstone has a rack of them, bottom row, front and centre of the kids' comics section.
I have a feeling the cover coudl've been a bit stronger. Even with the high profile location it didn't really stand out to me.

Re: Comics now out of reach in newsagents
I've seen a mixture of approaches. In the Stratford (London) branch the comics are housed in an aisle/island display, so they can't go more than 4ft from the ground (they're an unholy mess though, which is different argument). The small branch in the Elephant & Castle (London) has the comics in the ...

Re: Beezer & Topper Relaunch!
Retail giants like Smiths and Asda want a LOT of money for even putting the title on the shelves. Lew Lew, I've read about this in a number of places and I believe it is the same for the big book retailers such as Waterstones, Borders, et al., who charge for prime spots and window displays. But I'v...

Well, I subscribed Sunday and my number is around 2650, so that's 200 in 2 days.
If they keep this up and there'll 25000 of us by the end of the year - the golden age will truly be back with us!

IPC and Dan Dare book collections
Some pieces of news from Steve Holland’s excellent blog at http://bearalley.blogspot.com/ “The breaking news this week has come from Titan Books, who have signed a big deal with Egmont to reprint a variety of strips. The headline-grabber will be Roy of the Rovers who is to star in a whole serie...

Storing Commando
Now either my flat is getting smaller or this comic collecting lark has finally got out of hand... Just a quick question for those who collect Commando/other picture libraries - how do you store them? I can get specialist boxes for my American sized comics; 2000ad/standard British weeklies have nice...

Re: IPC and Egmont. Who owns what characters?
The 2000ad site says that the Strontium Dog books include those strips that appeared in Starlord.
Actually, you could probably do a Complete Starlord with one or two of those fat volumes.

Re: Comics UK! is it dead or just resting?
As from 7th January 2008 I will be starting a new job; Monday-Friday and 9-5. It's a Software Developer role, so after the initial month or so, of getting to know the job a bit better, I should have my evenings and weekends freed up for Comics UK. Good news on the work from Al, although working 9-5...

RUGBY STRIPS
A bit late given (i) the WC is over, and (ii) the book isn't British, but Cinebook have recently published a volume of translated French series: The Rugger Boys (in French, Les Rugbymen).

Re: New Albion's Origins book
I've bought the book and gulped down Kelly's eye....., Where did you get it from? I've seen it in neither specialist comics shop or regular bookshop, and Amazon says it isn't out till mid-October and only available as pre-order ... so is it out already in some places? Forbidden Planet (in London) h...
