Re: collected

Never quite understood the enduring popularity of Archie ,must be a U.S. thing but archie comics produced Sabrina the Teen-age witch for which I have three comics that were printed around the 70s I think ,that's without checking of course and these I find very funny and well suited to the comic for...

Re: Wonder comic from Esso

I remember the Smurf merchandise that National did in the late 70's. Nice comic tie in there:

Excellent news. Hope they do it justice. (Pun intended).
Thought the 2012 movie was pretty good.

Re: Leo Baxendale RIP

It is very sad, but a good innings from the great man. Leo was my biggest reason for reading and collecting comics. I owe him everything as he shaped my life the first time I read Willy book 1 way back then, every comic I have read since is because of that. I will take it off the shelf tonight and r...

Re: Little Plum

I might be wrong, but at that time Baxendale was so prolific that he was given a fair amount of freedom (for Thomsons) and it is possible that he did more Plum stories because he enjoyed doing them more than the others.

Agreed Tony. Gareth Thomas was good in that.
Filmed in Avebury, Wiltshire. I stayed there for a weeks holiday a few years back. Very atmospheric on a misty morning.

He was also in ultra-creepy 70's ITV drama Children Of The Stones.

Sad to see his passing. He used to make me laugh back in the day.
There seems to have been a lot of celebrity deaths lately:
Sylvia Anderson
Cliff Mitchelmore
Keith Emerson
Frank Sinatra Junior

Cheeky (from Cheeky Weekly & Krazy Gang) always addressed the reader on his daily walkabouts. I used to love it, it was like you were in his world.

Re: Is this forum turning its toes up?

I read this forum every day, but seldom post. As I am normally at work, I just don't get time. I have learnt so much over the years and I have contributed when I feel like I can add something, but always the discussion is interesting. It has been a hot dry summer, that would probably explain it I th...

The cornucopia of comics

I guess this might have been mentioned before, but the BBC website has a short film regarding the origins of British comics by Paul Gravett and John Harris Dunning.
It's worth a watch.

The brains of the family (my wife) has told me I did send off for the book. I had a flyer through the post when I was a member of the Beano club back then. Good old spouse memory!

Re: Storing comics -on Amazon 200ad bags and boards

Pretty sure you are safe with those, 2000ad was standard IPC around that time, all my Busters etc. are that size. It gives measurements I see, might be worth giving your issues a once over with the tape measure just to be sure. Maybe the seller has singled out 2000ad because more people would search...

Re: The Beano Book 1940 Facsimile

Crikey! My 1940 is numbered 0991/2000 and I thought I bought it not on mail order, but at Waterstones (which might have been called Ottakars still at the time) in Salisbury in 2006 for £1.99 in the January sales. Did anyone else get theirs in a shop, I think there was 2 copies in there when I got mi...
