Re: Not exactly comics but does anyone know who the artist?

Wonderful memories from that link I def remember these and the smell of the sheets (letraset sheets) for some reason used to have great fun with them Oh yes! :D I loved the original giant-size, black & white 'Panoramas': especially the moonscape version that was also printed on the back of Weetabix...

Re: Not exactly comics but does anyone know who the artist?

Frank Langford had a much thicker line than that. Unless he was trying out a pen instead of a brush when he did that one I don't think it's by him. He certainly didn't draw the second page (presumably this comes from a different story?), but having just had a look at some of his old work for Boys' ...

Not exactly comics but does anyone know who the artist?

I don't know about the second page but to me the first one looks a bit like Frank Langford, who seemed to end up with the lion's share of lucrative advertising work at the time in spite of a relatively slapdash style.

Re: Definitive book on British comics?

Speaking of which, there's another one just been published by the same company, although this one only focuses on sports strips: http://tinyurl.com/ylm47p Another new book with a sports theme that I noticed today was "You Are the Ref": 50 Years of the Cult Classic Cartoon Strip by Paul Trevillion -...

Re: What DC Showcase book do you have and recommend...

(on the Superman and Green Arrow books) Historically speaking they're a great representation of American culture of the period Perhaps it's also worth mentioning that the late Lee Elias (who drew the bulk of the Green Arrow volume) was one of the very first British artists to make a name for himsel...

Ian Rankin's "New Career in Comics"

I know it's not strictly a UK title but there was an interesting article in yesterday's Times announcing that Scotland's Ian (Inspector Rebus) Rankin is soon going to be writing DC's Hellblazer comic. The best-selling crime novelist told the Times that he grew up reading the Beano and the Dandy befo...

Oh well...I guess when you come from Stoke-on-Trent everybody tends to sound as though they have an accent! :?

Nice to hear Bananaman artist supreme Steve Bright chatting with Radio 5's Anita Anand, while inking an episode of Beryl the Peril. Love the accent, Steve! :)

REG PARLETT Article

Reg Parlett really was incredible! There must be people in their early twenties reading this who grew up with the Buster's Diary strips he continued to draw throughout the 1980s. There must be many others like Wilsia who grew up in the 1970s with an inexhaustible parade of Parlett characters like Iv...

Spaceship Away issue 9

Just seen it today and I've got to admit it's an impressive package (in spite of the high cover price). Unfortunately my appreciation was somewhat spoiled by the sad news that Ferdinando Tacconi had passed away since the previous issue! :(

The Return of Look & Learn

Nobody interested in the history of British comics can afford to miss this:

http://www.lookandlearn.com/index.php

In my opinion it already features the best showcase of classic British artwork around - and the site hasn't even been officially launched yet!

Which Top Spot artist belongs to this signature

Comparing it with his signature on a number of other cartoons from the same period I'd guess that it says 'P. Millar'.

It's a shame they followed the Book Palace website in misattributing two obvious Geoff Campion cover illustrations to Reg Bunn! :?

Eastward Ho at D C Thomson?

This supposedly came from a DCT editor, though it reached me second-hand so I can't vouch for its authenticity. Apparently a 'certain artist' was originally promised work, only to be told this week that he wouldn't be used after all because of a general decision to shift towards employing cheaper ar...

Eastward Ho at D C Thomson?

Has anyone else heard rumours that D C Thomson are going to be cutting back on UK-originated strips in favour of work produced by cheaper East European artists?
