Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
but phoenix, you can place 100% bid more than the last bid for your fav. or most sought after issue, but there's always someone who is prepared to blow all logic out of the water and, with an infinite purse, stick two fingers up at your bid. I'm not complaining... really: I have paid over the odds f...

Re: Are you a collector, or just a fan?
I disagree with the digitalized format. I've been to Mexico and touched pyramids: see them on a brochure - there's no comparison. Within a centre dedicated to comics, the high grade copies of course would be preserved and out of bounds from itchy fingers, but lower grade copies could be available fo...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
i didn't buy Cor!! issue one with free sachet of powdered drink. I bid over £300 and was left way behind. The final winning bid was £659. I am gobsmacked. Is that the highest bid for a 1970's comic with free gift? I've seen a pristine copy of 2000 ad with free gift go for £500, but this... I'm lost ...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
hi, dandy, your info crystallizes my point more intensely. From a quarter of a million copies of Beano no. 1, only one free gift that came with it survives! And it wasn't edible either. Currently, as I type, a copy of Cor!! no. 1 with its free gift (an unopened sachet of powdered drink) is going for...

Re: Are you a collector, or just a fan?
hi, lew, of course there will be a majority of my comics that could be off loaded to a dealer with minimal fuss, but there will be always that odd one or two that requires more attention - the ones that are very rare. Wouldn't you like to see an organisation (non-profiting of course) that could cate...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
the ones that survive, you say. That's got me thinking. Just think: how many Beano no.1 issues survive now in very fine condition, never mind the free gift that came with it. Not many. Is it 25 known copies? How can that be allowed? I know we're a small community that exists, but surely, with a comb...

Re: Are you a collector, or just a fan?
I was an avid fan but now I feel that I'm more of an avid collector. In my teens, I wouldn't think anything about shelling all my paper round money on virtually every British comic for boys at the time (Roy of the Rovers, Tiger, 2000 ad, Battle, Warlord, Crunch, Victor, all the Marvel UK titles that...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
Nutty comic no. 1 with free space dust powder for £165 - that's a snip, considering what Cor!! comic no. 1 with free powdered drink is currently going for - £250... may go for more as there's still nearly two days left to bid. Must be some thirsty bidders out there!
