Re: Any new developments...??

When I posted that earlier I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not (even with the DC Thomson logo in the corner). But The Dandy's facebook just linked to it!

Re: Help needed finding two comic strips - aliens/ egypt rel

Ooh I do think I remember the second one, it was definitely a 90's annual, and probably a Dandy one (they had a short period of featuring adventure stories in the annuals). I'd further narrow the range down to 1996 - 1999.. unfortunately my brother got the Dandy annuals, so they've probably all been...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

That Star Trek annual looks more like they're in a band than the crew of a spaceship XD

Re: Current thoughts about The Phoenix

Some branches have it fairly reliably, though others seem to get a huge stock of one issue, then don't bother selling it for another 10 weeks or so, then get another huge stock. They can't expect to sell 25+ copies of a serial-heavy publication like that!

Re: Art with Comics

They could also be colour photocopies!

One of the Oxfam's in Cambridge has 90's Beano pages on the 'anti theft tower' things near the door. They also have pages from what looks like a 60's or 70's Dandy annual stuck to the wall upstairs :/

Re: The most collectible issues of Commando from the 1960s

I'm not much of a fan of the Ian Kennedy covers, for some reason. His work on Dan Dare in New Eagle was brilliant, though. Especially his foray into Frank Hampson's 1994, during the "retcon" which made the original Dan Dare a Spitfire pilot.

The Ken Barr ones are amazing, though.

Re: What comics would you get in the year of your birth?

The Beano, Commando, Battle Action, Victor, Eagle, Roy of the Rovers and maybe War Picture Library.

Edit: Oh yeah, this would be 1984!

It's what I throw-awayly called Jamie Smart in that blog post, as 'certian' people seem to blame only him for the Dandy being cancelled.

Re: The most collectible issues of Commando from the 1960s

I think somebody on the Commando facebook mentioned that the earliest non-reprinted titles were 15 (called "Jap Killer", mind you!) and one in the 50's. Back when they were producing the 3-in-one themed compliation books I did suggest a "second chances" book with early, not-yet-reprinted stories. Bu...

Re: The Phantom

Well if the thread has been well and truly derailed, perhaps I ought to mention Waldo The Wonder Man from the Sexton Blake stories, he started off as a villain, but gradually converted to good throughout the 1920's. I suppose "The Wonder Man" wasn't his real name, so he sort-of had a secret identity...
