Re: Now officially a majority-reprint comic
Erm, I have to say I can't fully agree with you there Tony - I don't think many children would want the Beano to be full of reprints of 1930s text stories, or dated characters like Lord Snooty. Anything that is being reprinted needs to be reasonably modern in style otherwise it will stick out like a...

Re: Billy Whiz question.
I'd certainly be interested in seeing that strip, heh-heh.
I haven't seen that strip, but I did read an article from The Times where Danny Baker mentioned it so I was aware of its existence.

Re: Now officially a majority-reprint comic
The only issue of Buster I have is from April 1998 - by this time, all the strips were reprints (many of them former Whizzer and Chips strips) except for Buster himself, who took up the front and back covers, and a half page Crazy Maisie story. By the final issue, the only non-reprint strip was the ...

Re: Latest Circulation Figures June11 to Dec11
Wizzkid97, the first sales figure represents the circulation figures for June 2011-December 2011, the second (in brackets) represents those for the previous six months. The Dandy's circulation is higher now than in the last six month period recorded, so its circulation has gone up, whereas BeanoMax'...

Re: Roger the Dodger pull-out - Beano issue #3623
I have the 1993 and 1994 Beano books - the former doesn't contain any of the Roger strips in the pull-out (in the 1993 Beano book, Roger takes up the middle sixteen pages). The 1994 book does contain the strip with the mouse as I mentioned earlier, but I don't recognise any of the others. My guess i...

Roger the Dodger pull-out - Beano issue #3623
This week's Beano includes a 16-page Roger the Dodger pull-out, which includes several reprints, including what appears to be stories from the annual - I recognise the strip about the mouse on pages 1-4, which is from the 1994 Beano Book, and there seem to be too few frames per page to be from the w...

Re: General comics discussion
I've stuck to bo2soft, because I can't be bothered changing it - I've never had any problems with the old skin so I don't feel any need to change it. I also don't really like the appearance of Hestia (as it shows when I'm reading the forum, but not logged in), as it makes the screen appear stretched...

Re: Sun newspaper to close?
I don't know - I agree it as some quite gossipy content, but its coverage of sports like Formula One has been excellent in recent years. Whenever I've watched the BBC's coverage of Friday practice sessions ahead of the Grand Prix weekend, David Croft and Anthony Davidson have been great to listen to...

Re: 'The' Beano Max 62
I totally agree with you about Steve Bright, Peter - he's one of the best current artists. He was able to draw Calamity James really well when the character and strip are pure Tom Paterson; the strip never felt right when it was ghosted, but it still felt like James when Steve drew it. His Bananaman...

Re: *ADVERTS SPOILER ALERT* #3617 - 7th Jan 2012
Thank you for clarifying that Diego. I thought you did a very good job on your sadly brief tenure as Ivy artist, she had been in need of freshening up as, apart from one strip by Lew Stringer, she hadn't appeared solo in new stories since early 2007. If there was one weakness, I think she could have...

Re: General comics discussion
Personally, I tend to check the sections which hold most interest for me first. This is why, for example, I'm a regular in the Beano sub-forum whereas I never post in the 2000AD sub-section (I'm not familiar enough with it) or the Viz sub-section (I don't feel comfortable posting about a comic with ...

Re: New look Beano Cover
The cover that won the award - while being an excellent cover - was not truly representative of the majority of covers immediately after the Dennis revamp, which were often composed of stock art accompanied by TV series catchphrases. In 2010 many of the covers were simply images from the main strip ...

Re: New look Beano Cover
I couldn't agree more, Andy. Personally I found that one of the major problems with the Beano's covers between 2007 and 2011 was that they were so messy and cluttered, and the backgrounds of the comic meant issues became increasingly difficult to distinguish -with the pre-2007 big cover images I alw...

Re: Celebrity Dandy - do you miss it?
Thanks for the info Hornet. Unfortunately I think there's quite a few people who won't be too happy to hear about the return of the slebs to the pages of the Dandy (I'm afraid to say I include myself in this - I'd far rather see the Dandy's own characters). On a brighter note, at least it does answe...

Re: Comic artists working in other fields..like advertising
I agree. I think one of the main problems with Wenlock and Mandeville (apart from the mascots themselves being fundamentally rubbish) is that there are hardly any attempts at jokes within the strips. I wouldn't mind it so much if the strips at least tried to be funny, but instead they simply promote...
