Re: Anyone know the date of this Buster Special
While I'm here, there was, amazingly, one last Oink! special after that, in summer 1990, which was mostly reprint but with one new story from Patrick Gallagher. Cover scan:

Re: Anyone know the date of this Buster Special
There was an Oink! winter special in the same format - 66 pages (well, 68 but inside covers were blank), glossy, expensive (£2.25). It came out in 1989. Cover scan:

Re: Dandy & Beano 2009 Annuals - Front cover images
Is The Bash Street Kids annual a collection of Kev F Sutherland's strips? Looks that way from the cover. I'll be picking it up if so - I only pick up one or two issues of The Beano every year out of curiosity, and it's Kev's strips that always stand out. (I'd also gladly purchase a collection of Hun...

Re: DFC No.'s 1,2,3 and 4
Just to play devil's advocate for a moment: chances are 7 year old kids watch shows such as Doctor Who (with semi-regular use of "bloody") and The Simpsons (with regular use of "damn", "hell", "ass", "crap" and "b******", though the latter is usually censored in UK broadcasts). In the US, Marvel's c...

Re: DFC NO:1
PG-certificate films ostensibly aimed at children include such mild swearing, so why shouldn't comics follow suit?
Maybe the comic should come with an age-rating on the front... wonder what Pullman would make of that?!

Re: Indiana Jones New Comic
Slightly off-topic but related to "adult" content of UK reprint titles, I noticed that Titan now have a "Recommended for readers over the age of 12" (or something similar) on the front of Batman Legends - wonder if there have been complaints? Wonder if they were about All Star Batman & Robin? (Wond...

Re: Indiana Jones New Comic
Indeed, along with some "choice" language. "I'm the Goddamn Batman!" for example.Raven wrote:Well, none of those titles are aimed at children in the States. The Batman ones do tend to feature a fair few knives and adult situations, don't they?

Hunt Emerson in American Splendor!
I've been meaning to post this for a while but kept forgetting... the current issue of American Splendor (issue 2) includes two pages drawn by Mr Hunt Emerson. AS is always worth a read so I'd recommend picking it up anyway. (Mature readers only I'm afraid, kids.) Only available from specialist comi...

Re: Beano 70 Years of Fun special out now
Couldn't see it in my local WH Smith today (though I did notice they had Classics for the first time in months). Will try elsewhere tomorrow. It certainly looks lovely.

Re: Indiana Jones New Comic
I think i also saw a new Indiana Jones Adventures comic in the vein of Doctor Who and Robin Hood. Only had a very quick look (was meant to be in my room packing not in smiths!) but it had people with AK47's pointed at them. Surprisingly "violent" for a modern kids comic (the art didnt look like rec...

Re: DFC NO:1
Anyone know if The DFC will be offering back issues? I'm considering a subscription (I only usually buy the first 2 issues of kids' comics these days, but this looks a bit special) but could now only start the sub with issue 2.

Jamie Smart is new Desperate Dan artist!
Hope I'm not stealing his thunder by posting this, but Jamie's just announced the following on a MySpace bulletin: [quote:8604d566ef]i'm proud to say that following the one-off Dan strip I did in the Dandy t'other week, I'll be the new Desperate Dan artist for a 12 week run. It's a genuine honour to...

Cheap Annuals
The Broons & Oor Wullie fascimiles were on the '3 for ?5' shelf in my local WH Smith. I assumed they had been misplaced; I assumed correctly, as a fairly nonsensical conversation with the woman on the checkout confirmed. (Something about them having to be shelved with the annuals, even though they w...
