Favourite Comic Strip

Not necessarily my favourites, but these comic strips/comics stand out as being particularly memorable. I've limited myself to UK stuff, otherwise Hate, Milk & Cheese, Flaming Carrot, Groo and the Ice Haven issue of Eightball, the Milligan/Allred reinvention of X-Force and many, many others would al...

Re: Are we dumbing down comics for today's kids?

I know the bar has been raised considerably since then but I've got to admit I was still a bit surprised to see the Caped Crusader casually talking about "dead b*****ds" in last month's regular, code-approved Batman comic! "Holy Blue Murder" as Burt Ward might have said! :? - Phil Rushton What is t...

Re: Are we dumbing down comics for today's kids?

I haven't my copy to hand, (bought one second hnd a year or so back) but I recall Acne being very rude, swear word wise: otherwise it was like a regular kids comic: one of the weirder kids/adult hybrids that emerged in the early 90s adult comics boom. I had a few copies of Acne and I'm sure they we...

The Birmingham International Comics Show 2007

I'm still pondering on whether or not to come to this. I've never been to a comics show like this before and would love to do so, but is there enough to keep me entertained for all two days? Bear in mind I'll be alone and will have to book a hotel etc.

Aarrgghh!! It's the best of June and Schoolfriend.

I hope The Best of Look-In reprints some old TV schedules...

...not very likely, is it?

Re: Newsflash! The Dandy goes... Xtreme!

If DC Thomson think it's acceptable to create a comic which includes photos of children pretending to eat human faeces, or photo layouts with other kids making fake turds and leaving them on the floor... then where does the comic go next? How can you sustain this level of gross 'naughtiness' issue ...

Smut

Yeah, it's a shame. I thought they'd take the opportunity to improve but it looks like base, lowest-common-denominator rubbish. Perhaps it's got an audience, I suppose, but it's not for me.

I can pick one up and stick it in the post if you like - I doubt very much that WH Smith will be selling out of it any time soon!

Another new film tie in comic out today

I picked this up and it is very impressive - even though it's obviously aimed at the child market they seem aware that they'll have a large adult audience reading too. Nice to see new UK-originated strips from Furman/Senior! (I think these are new UK strips anyway - the first strip is new and the ba...

I had a flick through this in WH Smith today but couldn't bring myself to buy it. It's a shame Viz has no decent competition, and probably never will.

Re: He-Man & She-Ra UK comics

I was a reader of the Count Duckula comic as a kid. I remember there being a back-up strip in there about a young wizard in training, which I enjoyed. Can anyone shed any light on this one? Best, Chris I'm not entirely sure as I never read the comic, but it was probably "Alias the Jester", another ...

Same here, they only moved them a couple of weeks ago though. Must be a nationwide thing.
