New wave of British comics

Post by chrissmillie » 08 Mar 2006, 15:29

I wonder how many read UK indie comics? I'd recommend the following:

STARSCAPE (http://www.starscapecomic.co.uk) - now primarily a downloadable webcomic. Reprints classic strips, such as the Leopard from Lime Street and the Bat, together with new stories from creators from the likes of 2000AD, DCT and Marvel.

SOLAR WIND (http://www.solarwindcomic.co.uk) - an affectionate homage to the British kids comics of the 1970's and 80's such as Action, Eagle, Misty, 2000AD, Scream and Battle, as published by Cosmic Ray of IDPC Fleetson.

FUTUREQUAKE (http://www.futurequake.co.uk) - especially for those interested in 2000AD and their Future Shocks. Quite a few pro writers/ artists contribute.

BULLDOG/BAM (http://www.bulldogempire.com) - Adventure starring Captain Winston Bulldog and his crew in a brave new Britain of sentient animals and vegetables, impossibly huge air-battleships and transforming mecha biplanes starring a full and diverse cast of bolshy Brigadiers, mad scientists, Samurai Pandas and militant suffragettes.

GIRLY COMIC (http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk) - All-female comic running through comedy to slice-of-life and even a bit of adventure. They also publish the Action-influenced VIOLENT.

RAINBOW ORCHID (http://www.inkytales.co.uk) - Highly, highly recommended for fans of European adventure comics, BD and Tin-Tin. Can go all the way.

O MEN (http://www.comix.org.uk/theomen/) - Critically acclaimed UK version of the X-Men/ Doom Patrol by Martin Eden. Stable mate of similarly great Pest Control by Grant 'the new Morrisson' Springford.
