It's possible, query probable, that the replicas may have been blank inside except for ones which needed to be read on-screen - and even they are reasonably likely to be short four pages (24 instead of 28)

Assuming it isn't just the covers that were reproduced. Were the interiors shown?

I wouldn't know as I don't watch Poirot but I've seen these reprints that have appeared as props on various period tv dramas and they aren't complete ie only pages reprinted that appear on screen the rest are blank there was a 1943 Beano comic that appeared in the excellent Foyles war up on ebay last year and the emphasis was more on it being a prop that did get broadcast rather than it being a comic. This is the comic in question apologies if they've already been posted

I remember when the Arena show was first broadcast and wasn't allowed to stay up to watch it as it was a school night well I was only 10 back in 87...

I remmebered seeing an mid 70s episode where they are going on a picnic & Topov the monkey wants to take hhis money sweets & comics - which are a pile of the revived Magic comics. Topov pus the comics in a smaller tin, sweets in a purse & money in a satchel. Johnny has to put him right; then Topov insists on taking all his toys - bad move.

Unfortunately I think this episode is a wiped one; don't think its on the DVDs anyway (I'm missing 3rd volume).

Not a comic on tv as such but a tv/comic connection. Today's Radio Times is a Doctor Who special with pages devoted to each Doctor. This sidebar contains an interesting fact but, excuse my ignorance, did the show get Gallifrey from TV Action or vice versa?

Just looked at that issue of TV Action to check. It's on the letters page. A reader asks 'Where does the Master come from and how does he travel through time?'
The editor replies 'The Master's home planet was called Gallifrey. Like Doctor Who, the Master is also a Time Lord and stole a time machine to wander the universe.'

Countdown's editor was Dennis Hooper, and presumably he also edited TV Action (which Countdown regenerated as). Hooper was a big fan of Doctor Who and was in touch with the BBC so presumably they clued him in regarding Gallifrey before it was mentioned on TV.

I'd say that's worth scanning for a blog entry, as you own the issue

I stopped buying TV Action after about 30 issues. I think I have them all (Countdown included) up to number 87. Would that cover the issue in question?

No it's a later issue. I'll scan the letter on my blog shortly.

Speaking of printed spin-offs from Doctor Who I couldn't help noticing that the TV adverts for tomorrow's 'An Adventure in Space and Time' show the actor who plays William Hartnell holding a copy of the first Doctor Who Annual with its classic Walt Howarth cover.

I must say I'm really looking forward to this - more than the upcoming 50th anniversary episode in fact!
