Comics family tree
Comics family tree
Hello. I don't know if this is the right place for this query, but will the comics family tree be reappearing on the website soon? I miss it!
I always found it really useful when trying to gauge runs of comics and times of mergers, etc.

Hmm, Ongoing Tasks was last updated in January, apparently the publishers section is due next. I guess Al must've been too busy in his personal life to work on the site.
Re: Comics family tree
Since the website was last revamped, October 2011, I've been extremely busy with a work contract. However, that has now come to an end and I am currently overseeing the building of a small extension to my house. This has giving me some time to catch up on all the things that I have let slip, including this website.
I now have the unprecedented luxury of having lots of free time between now and early next year, so expect lots of new sections and the return of all of the old ones, including the Family Tree section. Background work has already got under way
Al

I hope you'll use larger thumbnails for the new look family tree, the old ones were so tiny, you sometimes couldn't even read the masthead.

Re: Comics family tree
I e-mailed some Beano covers to the gallery about three weeks ago (some Christmas covers from early 60s and the first Minnie the Minx) and have been wondering why they weren't added - now I know.

Re: Comics family tree
It was fascinating to find out that the very first "IPC" "Adventure comic" The Halfpenny Marvel could be traced right to one of the last, new Eagle! Albiet with several unlikely changes and mergers along the way. The latter days of The Marvel were all about boxing, then it merged with (I think) The Football Favourite. Once the section is up and running again I might have a go at getting a few issues of every 'step' of that tree and reviewing them on my blog.

These links may be useful for anyone looking up Fleetway who would normally use the Family Tree.

Almost everything published by Amalgamated Press, IPC and Fleetway is listed there. It's up to date through to the mid 90s, except that Sonic the Comic was omitted for some reason. It lists the launch dates, closure dates, and what they merged with.

Another fan of the Family Trees here! But I totally understand how other things can eat into the time, effort and energy necessary to get such things back up.
We can dream, though

Re: Comics family tree
Thanks for the Link Digifiend, a great resource, its a bit sad that there is only one still published.
Re: Comics family tree
Actually, it's none. Despite saying last updated 2012 at the bottom, like I said when I posted the link two years ago, it's out of date. Roy of the Rovers Monthly is long gone.
