Re: Spot the comic
I thought I'd mentioned that all three of those Cors!! above have Super Mousse comic strips on the back cover in full colour. There were about half a dozen different strips in all. Maybe I added it as an edit and forgot to save it. Anyway issue 3 of Knockout had a Super Mousse bar as a free gift.

Maybe we should start a thread on advertising strips?

Re: Spot the comic
yes I came across the Clarks Commandos strips recently (Clark's shoes) and they had a weekly serial comic strip drawn by a Fleetway artist.
Re: Spot the comic
I don't know about anybody else but I always thought Super Mousse tasted much nicer than the British-style Milky Way!
On advertising strips, does anyone remember Barry Smith's 'Anglo Ace'?

Was it drawn by Barry Smith? First I've heard that. Looks too accomplished for his style at the time but perhaps not.
One of the Anglo Ace strips and other 60's ads here:

Re: Spot the comic
"Anglo Ace" was eye-catching even in black-and-white! That Peter Max Yellow Submarine style is fun to draw.
Re: Spot the comic
...Unfortunately there were one or two people who never learned how to draw any other way.
I could've sworn I saw a recent confirmation that BWS drew Anglo Ace; unfortunately I can't remember where! At least there shouldn't be any difficulty in recognizing the veteran artist who drew this full colour strip that ran for several weeks in 1966:
However, I don't think comic strips have ever been as popular with advertisers as they were during the 1950s - especially when it came to using the right brand of soap or detergent. Some of those mini 'soap operas' really have to be seen to be believed!

Comic strips are an excellent way to advertise a product. The longer you keep the reader's attention on the page, involving them in a story, the more likely they are to remember the product. In theory anyway.philcom55 wrote:

Re: Spot the comic
Speaking of advert comic strips, Transform-A-Snack had this on the back of the packs:
But I noticed today that the packaging has changed, so that comic strip is going to disappear. The website that is mentioned, http://www.transformas.co.uk, now redirects to Tayto's corporate website.

Space Raiders also used to have a comic on the back of the pack. I bet both have featured their characters in advertisements at some point.

That's Eric R. Parker, Phil. It seems odd to see him drawing science fiction, but he did it well.

Spotted this ad in a 1943 Tit-Bits that shows the original name for Milky Way:
