Post by koollectablz »

Well, that's a shock, and a very sad one too...

One of my fav 2000AD artists and very prolific on preacher.

Not to mention his work on Abslom Daak.

V sad loss.

I was very shocked when I read it on Lew's blog. Especially as he was only a few years older than me.

I loved all his work especially in 2000AD and Preacher.

I don't know the circumstances and I hope he didn't suffer :(

my favourite work of his was probably City of the Damned, the Dredd story around 1984.

For me, it was his Mean Arena that first got my attention.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

I always think of him as the artist of Abslom Daak, Kroton the Cyberman, and all that stuff in Hulk Comic first and foremost-it really made an impact on me as a kid, and he was only about seven years older than me! Far, far too young to go.

He must have been the first artist anywhere to draw a new Ant-Man story after he changed his name to Giant Man in Tales to Astonish.

That would have been Herb Trimpe in issue 4 of Marvel Feature from 1972. It was the first of a short series appearing in issues 4 - 10 (although issue 8 was mostly reprint with a couple of new pages). Trimpe drew the first three issues and P. Craig Russell did the rest.

Yes, that occurred to me too after my post - but even so I think Steve's story was set before Hank Pym became Giant Man (and Goliath, and Yellowjacket, etc.), whereas Herb's version was a later incarnation. In effect Steve drew one of the first super hero tales ever to take place within Marvel continuity.
