Vintage signs and banners

Post by George Shiers »

I've come across a few vintage advertising signs for comics over the past few days, which have caught my interest. I love anything like this that relates to the history of comics, and I've absolutely fallen in love with the old tin signs. I posted a couple of photos on my blog, link below.

But I wanted to ask if anybody here had any old advertising items for old British comics!? Signs, banners, posters, etc etc... if you have something cool please do share an image. I'd love to see what people have got and share some to my blog if there's enough.

I'll start the ball rolling with this image of a Wham banner I found a picture of. Sadly, I don't own any advertising stuff (yet), but if I could have anything it would be this banner. I don't know why but I find it just so cool - I'd give my left leg to own it! (Please message me if you have one I can buy!)

Here's a link to my post that has a couple of posters of tin signs. I'm getting back into blogging so also doing a shameless plug here to ask you keep an eye on the site! I've lots of cool comics lined up 8) 8) (Plus I'm nearing my goal of 1 million views haha) :

Thanks for sharing :)

I seem to remember Compal Comics selling a bunch of advertising stuff for Buster comic #1 from 1960. Does anyone remember this/have the images saved?

I've also come across these tin signs. One for Film Fun featuring Laurel and Hardy from the early 1950s, and one for Comet.

I've just uploaded a Robin newsagents sign on What comics did you buy today topic, I hadn't seen this topic then.
