The End of Dr Who

Post by jim244 »

The version of Dr Who ( 1963-1989) that I grew up with ended due to budget constraints and some bad casting decisions.
The current Dr Who (2005-2025) ended due to constantly bashing the audience around the head with a book about progressive politics.
The Doctor became a woman and then a black homosexual.
I LOVED Jodie in her second series and Gatwa in his second series and admire both actors greatly.
But....When you change a tv show into a political campaign, you lose votes.
And viewers.
Disney won't renew this so unless Amazon picks it up I think this is the end.
And the message to be learnt is simple: A clever writer will include political views into his/her works.
This was a bit to in your face.

The BBC has said Doctor Who will continue with or without Disney, and I don't think Disney have announced a decision.

Technically correct.
My personal feelings/predictions are that Disney will drop the series due to terrible ratings.
I believe the BBC may indeed look to continue the show but will have a lack of interest due to production costs and ratings falling drastically.
One has to take into account that Tom Baker was getting ten million and David Tennant the same.
In my opinion, Jo Martin lit up the screen on all of her appearances and would have made a fantastic choice as a follow up to Gatwa.
And a black woman, so progressive for the show without any need for over politicizing an audience.
These are just my views.
I loved Gatwa but hated the writing and it's never about gay/straight.
It should be about good stories.
And while the Dr can love, he/she should always be subtle such as Tennant and Rose.
There seemed to be so much made about Gatwa being gay that it took away from the essence of the stories.
I have gay friends that are not happy that it used their sexuality to basically make a point.
And I agree.
Anyhow: Just my personal opinions and I hope to not offend anyone by such and please feel free to disagree.

Just to update this.
In the new DW Monthly, Russell leaves and stops the notes.
That says everything.
I do believe that at some point this show will come back but it is clearly over for now.
When it returns I hope it targets the general demographic.
A family audience.
The scene in the first episode when Tennant returned that was about "pronouns" and Catherine Tates' child being a transexual was, I believe, inappropriate and not exactly something that a wider audience would find important.
I believe everyone of any sexual preference or race or creed should be respected, I just don't believe that this is the correct vechile to air such beliefs and agendas.

Also.....
Why the hate for women????
We get a female DR and she is made to be a lesbian.
It is just all insane and reflects JK Rowlings' current scenario where she just wants women to be respected ....
This woke agenda was the death of the show.
AND it is insane as the majority of men and women are straight but with a percentage of gay and lesbians.
Transexuals are so low in percentage why would the show ever aim this in that direction.....
BECAUSE the most successful Dr Who since the revival has a transexual child.
That's the truth, the real secret.
And that is why this show died.
