JNP codes - an incomplete list

Post by Richard S. »

2000AD was codenamed JNP13 [Juvenile New Projects] while it was still in development and I know of a (very) few other JNP codes that were used but many are a mystery to me. I've started a list of those that I know but would welcome further examples. Thanks!

I asked former Tiger and Roy of the Rovers editor Barrie Tomlinson about this on X and this is his reply, you probably already knew this but he's on X if you want to ask him any more details. He always replies to my tweets so is quite affable.

Yes. Every new comic was given a JNP number. The thinking was that by not revealing the proposed title, rival publishing companies wouldn’t find out what the new title was about.

He later sent another reply:

Thinking about it, I think JNP stood for Juvenile New Publication… 🤔
