Rocket's Blast-Comicollector

I would like to know if anyone has an opinion on RBCC?
I have a few of them mainly with Don Newton covers (as per two of the scans) as I very much like his artwork, and find the interiors a great source of pre internet comic info.
I originally wanted only the 'Daredevil' and Claw issue by Don Newton to compliment my 'Daredevil' collection but decided I liked more!

I read not too long ago an article about somebody that had purchased some original cover artwork from a RBCC, I think a Mike Zeck piece and he was basically saying that he had paid too much, which I would not comment on as he is the expert, but it was his comments that were along the lines of
"who would really want artwork from a fanzine that no one even remembers" that really grabbed my attention.

The Adam Strange cover is by Mike Zeck who contributed some lovely work for this issue and others.

Is it a forgotten fanzine? Anyone.

I must say I've never heard of it myself. But if you like an artist, what does it matter that the art comes from somewhere obscure, surely?

I knew of the 'zine but had never read an issue. It was quite highly thought of among 'zine fans. There's a lot more here:-

I used to have a large pile of RBCC's. For art, articles and regular columns (especially Don Rosa's Information Center) it stood head and shoulders above virtually all other fanzines.

I still regret getting rid of mine in one of my clear outs.

I have a number of issues which all feature excellent art and articles. If an artist went on to become a published professional I really don't understand why anybody would look down on their fanzine work - in some ways it can be even more interesting as it shows their talent at a formative stage.

Thanks for those links Paw, good to see those RBCC together like that. Great blog to look around on.

I can imagine how you feel David, we have all probably been there done that! And there really is some great info in those issues.

What numbers do you have Phil?

As this chap was in America and very well known in the comic world, I was surprised that he made those comments, but it is good to see that they are not forgotten by all!

there are articles about specific issues of RBCC (134 (a Flash Gordon special) and 135 (a Mike Zeck cover, plus I used to own a copy) at http://comicattack.net/2016/01/is-79-rbcc-134/ and http://comicattack.net/2009/11/is-6-rbc ... mike-zeck/

You can download pdfs of those issues at http://www.kenmeyerjr.com/ink-stains.html (downloads 6 and 79). If you go there you'll see lots of other American fanzines from (mostly) the 1970s for download. If that sort of thing interests you (it does me) then it's a wonderful site. The articles on the 'zines (http://comicattack.net/category/cafeatu ... inkstains/ for a link to a full list of those articles) are also well worth reading.

the Great Don Newton
First ran across Don in RBC back in the 70's and liked him ever since. Though his untimely death was a huge shock, and extremely saddening. Have a lot of RBC issues in my lock up, and was lucky enough to snag some unbelievable fan artwork from The Golden Age Collector by Don at a convention in New York many years ago. Have added it to this post for your enjoyment. Peter

Hmm can't figure out how to attach an image. Tried copying and making a duplicate then tried cut and paste but that doesn't seem to work either? Anyone tell me how to insert an image into this conversation?? :)

Aha figured it out but added one image twice! Oh well I'll get the hang of it.
