Interestingly,we start off the strips based on series 2 in both the same way as the strips of series 1 began and that the TV series began series 2.
On TV,eps 1 of series 2,"The Metamorph" begins with a voice over by Dr Helena Russel,stating that they had gone through a space warp.
This has been used by some to explain the change in personal on Alpha.
Whilst we clearly meet Maya in the first episode,the mystery of who Tony is,where are Paul and Victor etc is an unexplained one.
In the strips for series 1,the Alphans' go through a space warp and find themselves back in the orbit of Earth in the first story.
In this first story for series 2,a similar space warp has occurred and the moon has magically appeared in the orbit of the planet Leptar.
The Leptarians investigate,find man made constructions but no signs of life,as the Alphans are frozen in time.
Fearing disease,they launch missiles to destroy the moon.
Maya is introduced in this story and her character is well used for the events of the story.
Like the previous two stories of series 1 strips ,this has 9 parts.
I personally find a lot of this strip rather repetitive of earlier stories such as "The Warmongers" and "Justice of Kolbar".
I did enjoy the conclusion and the way it has fantastic continuation into the next strip.

Mike Noble was unavailable to do the artwork at the time,so John Burns (the artist of the colour strips on series 1) returns.
This short,3 part story,acts as an excellent coda to the last story.
One of the most interesting things about this strip is that fate is discussed.
Fate or an unknown Universal power was part of the main theme to the television series,an idea that scriptwriter Johny Byrne (no relation to John Burns) often interjected in his excellent episodes.
President Tarfon has invited the Alphans to join his people on the planet Leptar,which is very similar in climate and environmental conditions to Earth.Commander John Koenig plans to launch Operation Exodus.
Then the moon goes through a time warp and the planet Leptar is a volcanic wilderness,unsuitable for colanization.
The Alphans have lost their chance of a new home.

So with this fantastic,my personal favourite, strip of the Season 2 stuff,these 8 installments meant that Space 1999 entered it's third year at Look-in Magazine.
Sadly it's last year.
The concept of androids was interesting as the only television episode to feature androids was "One Moment of Humanity".
The Alphans again return to Earth (see Story 1,Series 1) to another dystopian future.Rather than giant ants,we find Earth of 2154 ruled by robots.
This is mainly a battle story with John Koenig, Alan Carter, Helena Russel and Maya joining forces with a human guerilla outfit to fight against the Cyberons.
Allan and Noble smash this one right out of the park,not only (in my opinion) the best series 2 strip but top 3 material of any Space 1999 strip ever.

An asteroid almost the size of the moon appears in the path of the Alphans' current trajectory.
Lasers and a bomb have zero effect on it.
A collision is imminent and will destroy Moonbase Alpha.
Koenig and Alan take an Eagle to the asteroid to try to find some information that can be used to solve the situation.
When they return to Alpha,thay are shocked to discover that they have somehow been miniaturized.
Alan saves the day with a message to Maya who then telepathically reads Johns' mind.
A special bomb is built that destroys the asteroid.
Erm.....As insane as the televisions' second season was...this story went further down the rabbit hole.
For one thing,Maya wasn't telepathic in the television series and yet also used these powers in the first story to save the day (Season 2,Story 1).
Secondly,the idea of John and Alan being miniaturized owes more to sixties stories in TV21 than a 70s' Anderson strip in Look-in.
Easily the worse of the 12 Look-in strips it is made worthy by Nobles' exceptional art.

Alpha is running low on the mineral Attrion which is vital for their oxygen recycling.
Their sensors detect mass amounts in the seas of a nearby planet.
Koenig and Maya lead a small fleet of Eagles to extract the mineral.
There,they are attacked by monoplanes,biplanes,cross bows with arrows and even a giant sea monster.
A rescued pilot tells them that his people are under attack by aliens.
Rumoured to be a 7/8 part story,this was apparently shortened to a 4 parter to make room for the following strip "Just William" to debut in sequence with it's television debut.
This strip therefore does appear rather rushed and has a sense of incompleteness about it.
However,seeing a bi-plane crashing into an Eagle as drawn by Mike Noble is worth the price of admission alone !
Therefore after a total of 12 stories,7 based on the first TV series and 5 based on the second,Space 1999 came to it's end in Look-in.
