In 1971 issue 20, Look-in commenced publication of a series of stories across many issues with individual titles under the umbrella that they were picked by celebrities. Picked from where ?? Never stated. So to this day I am uncertain whether these were reprinted stories or stories created especially for the series. However my theory is that most likely they were unused submisssions from various artists and writers that were hanging around in a file cabinet.
An example for how this worked follows:
"Reg Varney, star of London Weekends' "On The Buses", selects this comical three part story of a postmans' win on the pools.
"If I won the pools I'd pack up driving buses" commented Reg." (Photo of Reg from "On The Buses" accompanies this).
Anyhow, this series actually contains some very good stories and I will be chronicling it.

I think you're over-thinking things. I can't see why Look-in, or rather Independent Television Publications, would have built up an extensive collection of unsolicited submissions in such a short space of time, especially ones that had no relevance to a comic based around TV shows. I also find it unlikely that established pros such as Brian Lewis and Eric Bradbury would need to submit unsolicited work. I think this was a simple way of filling two pages with non-licenced strips and justifying it by using the gimmick of attaching a celebrity to each story.

On reflection, I believe you to be correct.Robbie Moubert wrote: ↑21 Oct 2024, 09:14I think you're over-thinking things.
