Is there a way where people have to answer a question before they register? I do that at the Marvel UK forum. The question is just why do you want to join but it really cuts down sp*mmers. They're either no answer, complete nonsense or the thing they're trying to advertise.

Agreed.

Chris, can you elaborate a little more on your idea.

Because the PHPBB code was imported, I'm just a tad weary of messing around with it. But I'll welcome anything that'll get rid of the Sp*mmers.

I'll take a look at the Marvel forum

If you don't want to mess about with the code too much, you could disable signups and put a link up saying "Register" which has a form to fill in. (username, 2nd choice username [just in case it's already taken], password, email address, why you want to register box. The form details then go to your email address, and then if you're happy with that user's answers, you can signup them up yourself.

I use Black Fire Networks http://www.bfndevelopment.com/ for forms (no banner ads or popups).

If you're unsure of how to do it, I could make the form for you (don't worry, I won't need to go into anything in your site) and then send it to you so you can implement it. :)

Guys, you should take a look at this forum modification which will cut out all the spambot registrations.. we installed it on our filmmaking forum at http://www.ottfilms.co.uk several months ago and I haven't had a single spam registration to deal with, it's easy to install (a complete novice could do it) and will take any spam headaches out of your day to day forum management.

Best of luck.

Sounds brilliant!

I'll be attempting a few updates to Comics UK at the weekend :xfingers:. And will certainly give this a try.

Thank you

Al
