Ali Ha Ha in the Dandy

Post by klakadak-ploobadoof »

Hi, what are the exact start and end dates (issue Nos) of Ali Ha Ha in the Dandy? Also, what are the exact start and end dates of Big Head and Thick Head in the Dandy? Were the two strips reprinted in some other comics later on? Thanks!

Thanks for this info. Were Ali Ha Ha reprints in Hotspur in colour? Which Hospur issues had the reprints and was the entire original run reprinted? As for Big Head and Thick Head, can anyone specify when McDiarmid took over?

I'd be very surprised if the Ali Ha Ha run in the Hotspur was in colour - I can only remember full colour being on the front and back cover, with just black and red in the centrespread. I used to get Hotspur from about 1969 to 1975, and can't remember Ali and co being in colour.

I can add that at least the World Cup Final issue of the Dandy featured a JC Hughes Big Head and Thick Head.

Ali Ha Ha was revived in the Dandy around the 1980s/90s by Henry Davies.

Ali Ha Ha was reprinted in Hotspur from issue No 599 (10/4/71) and ran regulalrly to No 634 (11/12/71). Hotspur, Victor and Hornet all decided in Mar/April 1971 to drop their one prose story per week and replace them with several reprinted comic pages instead.
Ali Ha Ha reurned to the pages of Dandy in 1986 in new strips drawn by Jerry Swaffield.
As to Big Head and Thick Head strips drawn by Jimmy Hughes there were six altogether in Dandy Nos 1277 (14/5/66), 1278, 1284, 1288 (the World Cup issue),
1290 and 1305 (26/11/66).
