Dandy Annual 2013

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
Thanks guys:)
Number 13 is being coloured in-house, Kate and Bully Beef have both been coloured by me, but I didn't have access to the coloured versions as they're on the hard drive of a computer that's currently dead. Seems like the linework's enough to give you an idea of what to expect, anyway;)

Lew's doing two strips, but wants to keep which ones a secret. The only clue is, one started in the 1940s, the other made his debut in the '50s. Maybe the Smasher?

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
I can't think of any famous Dandy strips that began in the 1940s other than Black Bob and Addie and Hermie. I doubt they could get away with doing an Addie and Hermie strip, although they did have the nazis in a recent Fred's Bed strip in the Beano , but Black Bob isnt the sort of strip i'd imagine Lew drawing.
So i'm probably missing a famous Dandy strip that began in the 40s. Any suggestions?

Tin Lizzie? for the 40's..
Danny long legs..
Grockle

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
Grockle was in issue 1, and thus is 1930s and can be ruled out.
Re: Dandy Annual 2013
So, from what we've got - these are all of the stories so far appearing in the 2013 Annual.
Beryl the Peril - Steve Bright
Winker Watson - Will Dawbarn
Keyhole Kate - Laura Howell
Corporal Clott - Steve Bright
Hysterical History - Karl Dixon
Robin Hood's Schooldays - Will Dawbarn
Bananaman - Wayne Thompson
Bully Beef and Chips - Laura Howell
Monkey Bizness - Mike Donaldson
The Badd Lads - Will Dawbarn
PLUS...
Unknown strips (x2) - Lew Stringer
Unknown strips (x2) - Steve Beckett
MOST LIKELY:
Cuddles and Dimples - Nigel Parkinson
Desperate Dan - Nigel Parkinson
As for the rest - we'll just have to wait and see!

Mine has just arrived...
Re: Dandy Annual 2013
I must admit that I've always been a bit unimpressed by the Smasher who, in spite of Hugh Morren's art, seemed to me to be little more than a rip-off of Davey Law's Dennis the Menace. I dare say lawsuits would have begun to fly in no time if he'd appeared from a rival publisher in 1957 instead of in the Dandy. It'll be interesting to see if Lew has found a new handle on the character (possibly a bit more like Tom Thug?) - and whether he turns him back into a redhead!

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
This is how Lew has portrayed the spikey haired tare away that likes to break stuff in the modern day done a top notch job of it tbh and I hope it will be in the weekly comic along with a few others in the annual as I will actually start buying it again if it happens
Re: Dandy Annual 2013
The above story also appears twice just mine or has the full print run got this mistake?

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
The two copies I have are the same so the whole print run must have that error. Mind you, from a personal viewpoint I'm pleased they repeated a page rather than missed one out. That said, I hope the repeated page didn't replace anyone else's work.
Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoyed writing/drawing those three Smasher pages. I'd be more than happy to do it for the weekly if required.
Incidentally, Smasher's dog Pongo appeared in the 1960s occasionally so I thought I'd bring him back for that episode, along with Smasher's old catchphrase "Run like fun!"

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
It's looking like an excellent annual, will have to get hold of a copy pronto!
Also, is that a little Harry from Harry and his Hippo I spy on the inside back cover in the above photos?

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
Unfortunately, it's a safe bet that something is missing. We have a pretty comprehensive list above of what should be in it. If something is listed but not there, that's what the duplicated story replaced.
WizzKid97, you can update your list with Black Bob by Steve Bright, and both Julius Sneezer and Smasher by Lew Stringer.

Re: Dandy Annual 2013
Not necessarily. When a comic or book is planned out the first thing to do is list a pagination. In the case of an 112 page book it's quite easy to paginate the same page twice without noticing. It's rare, but it does happen.Digifiend wrote:Unfortunately, it's a safe bet that something is missing.
Regarding the artist of Greedy Pigg and Jocks and Geordies in the annual, it looks like Paul Palmer's work to me.
