Re: Doctor Who on U&Eden channel
I think all the U channels are owned by the BBC which is why so many old BBC shows are on them. Porridge, Last of the Summer Wine, New Tricks etc.
Re: Doctor Who on U&Eden channel
I think you are right but I just don't understand why they only show 3.5 hrs of tv and then repeat it constantly for 24 hours.stevezodiac wrote: 06 Jan 2026, 15:54 I think all the U channels are owned by the BBC which is why so many old BBC shows are on them. TLC comes to freeview next Tuesday, they're showing about 12 hours of The Big Bang Theory non stop. I'm not a fan of modern US comedy.
Re: Doctor Who on U&Eden channel
Yes I saw adverts for it tonight.
I don't mind the "Big Bang Theory" but agree with you that most US modern comedy is not wonderful.
I did love "Cheers" back in the 80s.

I loved Becker with Ted Danson and Dax (#1) from DS9.stevezodiac wrote: 07 Jan 2026, 15:50 TLC comes to freeview next Tuesday, they're showing about 12 hours of The Big Bang Theory non stop. I'm not a fan of modern US comedy.

Re: Doctor Who on U&Eden channel
Years ago Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais the writers of Porridge and the Likely Lads, were on Radio 5 Live and I sent a text saying that whereas their two shows and other UK sitcoms were written by one or two people and were like fly on the wall films with natural dialogue, US sitcoms were written by several people and were just a succession of one-liners. They agreed and told me US sitcoms had about a dozen writers just writing loads of one-liners which they submitted and the producers just picked out the best for each episode. It just came across as unnatural with every character having a with retort.

OMG I only recently watched "Deep Space 9" and I knew she looked familiar !!!Adam Eterno wrote: 09 Jan 2026, 08:45I loved Becker with Ted Danson and Dax (#1) from DS9.stevezodiac wrote: 07 Jan 2026, 15:50 TLC comes to freeview next Tuesday, they're showing about 12 hours of The Big Bang Theory non stop. Excellent insight and makes a lot of sense but " Cheers " remains amazing.stevezodiac wrote: 10 Jan 2026, 14:34 Years ago Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais the writers of Porridge and the Likely Lads, were on Radio 5 Live and I sent a text saying that whereas their two shows and other UK sitcoms were written by one or two people and were like fly on the wall films with natural dialogue, US sitcoms were written by several people and were just a succession of one-liners. Obviously M.A.S.H. will always be my fave US comedy....although it's often more sad than funny.

Re: Doctor Who on U&Eden channel
More Doctor Who episodes next Tuesday 27th. The Monster of Peladon (6 episodes) and Death to the Daleks (2 episodes but this was originally a four parter). Anyone know why Death to the Daleks has been halved?

Tuesday the 20th they showed eps 1-6 of the Dinosaur Invasion and eps 1 and 2 of Death to the Daleks.
Tuesday the 27th sees ep 3 and 4 of Death to the Daleks and 1-6 of The Monster of Peladon.
I'm guessing that the following Tuesday will show Planet of the Spiders and eps 1 and 2 of Robot.
Hope that helps

He's just regenerated into some brown haired chap that was in a Sinbad movie.
Re: Doctor Who on U&Eden channel
How annoying is this channel !!!
it started from ep 1 again, went to ep 5 then started ep 1 again !!!!!
So no repeat of ep 6 !!!
Obviously this is available free on BBC app and I have it on DVD but just really weird and annoying.
