Look -in was 52 issues a year, published every week.
Not entirely correct.
1971 (51)
1972 (52)
1973 (52)
1974 (50 - issues 51 and 52 produced but unpublished)
1975 (50 -issues 1 and 2 produced but unpublished) Ultimately this and the above led to 4 chapters of each picture strip never being published.
1976 (53)
1977 (52)
1978 (52)
1979 (49) - paper shortage due to industrial action led to 3 weeks unpublished but unlike in 74/75,the strips continued and issues were published as 5/6 for example. However the "Mind your language" strip lost a chapter.
1980 ( 52)
1981 (53)
Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips

Re: Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips
Correction:1974 should have been 51 issues,not 52.
Even without the paper shortage, the 1974 run was planned at 51 issues.
According to Andy Davidsons' excellent book "Jaunt",issue 51 was published.
He doesn't state this implicitly but implies such in dating of issues.
According to my friend Ebay Steve, issue 51 did indeed exist but was an extremely limited run and less pages than a normal issue.
Personally,I have never seen this issue and am unconvinced that it was printed.
It's a mystery,urban myth or existed,uncertain.
Even Ebay Steve will confess that he never actually owned it.
If anyone from this fine forum can offer actual evidence that issue 51 1974 exists, please do so.
I don't believe it was ever printed but will be very happy to be proved wrong.

Re: Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips
Correction Number 2:
As Look-In 1974 actually officially ran for 51 issues, there are 3 chapters unpublished of various strips, not 4 as previously stated.
Unless you believe issue 51 exists,in which case 2.

Re: Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips
FINALLY....
I can reveal that both myself and other collectors that I have spoken to were wrong.
Look-in 1974 is 50 issues, therefore there are two missing issues only.
1 and 2 of 1975.
So 2 parts of each comic strip weren't published.
How do I know this??

But ebay Steve was right,he said issue 50 existed and that is the confusion here,I thought he meant 51.
So .............
The real mystery finally comes down to whether 50 1974 exists.
It does.I just posted about it.
And just purchased it.
And am rather happy.
What,at least to me,started off as a fantastic mystery of the missing Look-in issues of 1974 and 1975 has finally been solved.

Re: Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips
CONCLUSION:
1974-50 issues published, issue 50 rare as a very low print run.
1974-Issues 1 and 2 were planned for publication but never published.
NEW MYSTERY:
What artwork still exists from the 2 unpublished issues????
My guess is very little, the excellent Shaqui Le Vesconte managed to obtain the art from the unpublished issues 1 and 2 for "The Tomorrow People" which has now finally been published in the absolutely brilliant "The Tomorrow People:The Complete Look-In Strips Vol 1"
Does anything else still exist and if so will it ever see publication?
Well it took these 4 pages almost half a century to surface and therefore I think like the Chuck Berry song danced to by Travolta and Thurman in Quentin Tarantinos' masterpiece "Pulp Fiction"...You Never Can Tell.

Re: Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips
I can confirm that ALL of the strip art from those two issues exists. With the exception of a complete two-part story for 'Bless This House', which was used in one of the Look-in TV Comedy Annuals, I own all of them. They've been in my collection for some years, since I realised that the art was held by Peter Hansen, and his then associate Phil Clarke, & spent a weekend going through what was held at the time. I have other unpublished Look-in art as well.jim244 wrote: 16 Jul 2024, 21:53 NEW MYSTERY:

The use of the four John M. Burns pages in 'The Tomorrow People: The Complete Look-in strips Vol 1' might well have been lauded but I was treated quite shitily by Chinbeard, and its owner Barnaby. I wasn't even given a complementary copy of Vol.2 even though I contributed extensive material, interviews & information on overseas reprints for usage by Andy Davidson to that Volume as well.
Because of this astonishingly ugly treatment, I am highly unlikely to ever loan any art pages to any other reprint projects.

To be honest you are a bit of a hero of mine so thank you so much for answering my question.
IF ANYONE DOESN'T KNOW WHO THIS GUY IS.....
He is a LEGEND.
I'm sorry and shocked that you were treated so badly and it's absolutely disgusting.
Thank you so much for everything that you have done.

Here are photos of some of the missing pages, when I acquired them. (You may need to be on Facebook, and be a friend of mine there to see these images)
