The Saint TV Tornado strips

Post by Blakescrewe »

I've been trying to find the names of the artists who drew those strips in 1967 and 1968 but can't locate any info, and how many Saint strips appeared in the comic too? Thanks.

Hi Blakescrewe.
I believe the artist for the Saint comic strip in Tornado was Vicente Alcazar.
I'm uncertain how many Saint strips there were but the series ran from issue 15-88.
It then continued with the merger of TV21 and TV Tornado from issues 192 - 242.
The strip was renamed "Meet the Saint" and continued in TV21 and Joe 90 from issues 1-36 and then TV21 37-52.
I hope this helps.

Always a pleasure, I'm a massive fan of Leslie Charteris.

I believe Edmond Ripol also drew some. I think Carlos Poinos & Vicente Alcazar may have continued the strip in the TV21 era.

Is that from TV Tornado, or a standalone Saint comic? :?:

Harry Bishop drew The Saint and also Tarzan strips for TV Tornado in some issues of 1967, I believe there may have been several artists in the Tornado run as you mention above Edmond Ripol.

I am a massive Saint / Leslie Charteris fan and have all of the books.
Would dearly love to see this series of strips reprinted in a book but I think it's doubtful the majority of the art remains so would be a case of collecting the Tornado and TV 21 issues and scanning them.
And goodness only knows what copywrite problems would occur with the estates of Charteris, Anderson and the original artists etc.

That's for sure, copyright is the main (and sometimes totally unsolved) problem for something like that...
Thanks for your great contribution to certifing the JB strip artists!
