60) Jacky Daw with Maw and Paw (124) The Beano's (1976-1978) answer to Reg Parlett's Valiant strip 'The Crows'. As with 'Pansy Potter - the Strongman's daughter' (still to come in the Top 100) the titles rhyme gives away its Scottish editorial origins. Artwork David Gudgeon.

KeV F made reference to the non-rhyming of Pansy Potter and daughter in one of his Bash Street adventures last year - don't think it had occurred to me before that!

59) Ping the Elastic Man (127) The title basically tells the tale in this comic strip from the Beano's early years (1938-1941) as Ping literally goes to any lengths to try and impress. Artwork Hugh McNeill.

58) Wee Ben Nevis (139) Garbed in his tam o'shanter and kilt and gifted with super-human strength Ben Nevis was the anything but the average Scottish schoolboy, something which his teacher Prof Egwell Fryde frequently found to his cost in this 1974-1977 strip. Artwork Vic Neill.

57) Jack Flash (140) Jack Flash the Flying Boy with wings on his heels came to Earth from the planet Mercury and thanks to his kindly acts of derring-do was the Beano's favourite alien in 7 series spanning nearly a decade (1949-1958).
In the 1970's the girl's paper Mandy would give us Jackie Flash, a female take on the character while in 1980 Jack himself would be revamped for a more modern age in the new comic Nutty.
Artists chronologically on the original Dudley Watkins, Fred Sturrock, Paddy Brennan and Andy Hutton.

56) The Germs (142) Owing its origins to the Leo Baxendale Wham strip 'Georgie's Germs' of twenty years before it took Ill Will (brilliant name I always thought), the host of the perniciously persisitent microbe colony, a long-suffering 17 years (1987-2004) to amass his 142 Beano appearances. Artwork Dave Sutherland.

55 with a bullet) Bash St - Singled Out (143) As the title suggests this is the strip, first appearing in 2004, in which individual Bash St characters get a chance to go solo and enjoy a bit of personal limelight. Artwork Mike Pearse and Tom Paterson.

54) Tim Traveller (146) The kid with the time-travelling super-bike, a sort of Jimmy and his Magic Patch for the 1990's (1997-2004) but this time played entirely for laughs. Artwork Vic Neill and Keith Reynolds.

No entry for 52 as two entries tied for 51.

51) The McTickles (156) A kilted clan of Caledonian origin to whom everything was either 'McThis' or 'McThat' and whose favourite grub, when they could catch one, was the free range, wild McHaggis. Featured in 1971-1974 with artwork by Vic Neill.

51) Col Crackpot's Circus (156) Roll Up! Roll Up! Between 1960 and 1963 it was Big Top time in the Beano with Crackpot and his troupe of performers from Charlie the Strongman to Cynthia the World's Fattest Lady and not forgetting the Colonel's little 'helper', his wily young nephew Cyril. Artwork Mal Judge.

Didn't Vic Neil also do that strip?

If i remember rightly Tim Traveller, along with Vic Volcano and Crazy for Daisy, where chosen in a "pop idol" (long before the show hit our screens!) style event where one-off strips would be run each week and readers asked to vote for the one they wanted to continue. Personally i thought the "space hotel" one was best.
