What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
Wouldn't it be good if DC decided to relaunch these two with some old characters and some new! (I know its highly doubtful but it would be good!)
Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
If they were going to do that they'd have done it before the Beezer annual was axed. Shame. I can't see why Adrian the Barbarian (aka Olaff the Madlander) can't appear in the same Beano as Fred's Bed (and The Numskulls), and I can't understand why the Dandy dropped Beryl the Peril, other than the fact the character was female (which would be sexist if that's the reason).
BTW, if you abbrieviate Thomson's name, use DCT, not DC. DC refers to Superman and Batman!
They did revive Magic in the 1970s though (although without any of its old characters)

Lack of popularity presumably.Digifiend wrote:I can't see why Adrian the Barbarian (aka Olaff the Madlander) can't appear in the same Beano as Fred's Bed (and The Numskulls), and I can't understand why the Dandy dropped Beryl the Peril, other than the fact the character was female (which would be sexist if that's the reason).
What works for one generation doesn't necessarily work for another.

Freds Bed was also a timely revival with it's time-travel elements, as Doctor Who is so popular at the moment.

The closest the Beezer and Topper being relaunched is happening right now with
strips in 'Classics from the Comic'.
strips in 'Classics from the Comic'.
Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
Was you aware that Classics was actually created in 1996 by merging Best of Beezer and Best of Topper and adding the Beano, Dandy, Nutty, Cracker, Buzz and Sparky material? And this was at a time when Beezer still had summer specials and annuals, so it wasn't even totally dead yet.

Yes I was and am aware of it just click on my blog below.Digifiend wrote:Was you aware that Classics was actually created in 1996 by merging Best of Beezer and Best of Topper and adding the Beano, Dandy, Nutty, Cracker, Buzz and Sparky material? Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
And I can add that both Best of publications regularly included Beano and Dandy material.
Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
Didn't know that. I assume they added the Beano and Dandy material later, because if it was there from the off, surely the better known Beano and Dandy brands would've been used instead?
Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
Beezer and Topper were still on the go as independent publications when they started, so it may have been to get more notice of the brandnames. They featured characters from other comics as long as I can remember.
Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
The Best of Beezer & Topper contained Dandy and Beano reprints from the very beginning in 1988 and always did so for all of their 30+ issues. They were only available quarterly BTW unlike the Classics.

Re: What if the Beezer and Topper relaunched?
I definately remember seeing a 1964 NEW YEAR DIRTY DICK tale in one of the very early BEEZER/TOPPER best-ofs: the covers depicted mostly characters from BEEZER-TOPPER [though not exclusively] unlike the later CLASSICS covers which had BEANO-DANDY characters as a centrepiece......so it's no much wonder there was/is some confusion!
