The "Posh" (and over-expensive) Beano
What do you all think of this week's Beano? 8 page Bash Street (by Tom Paterson, not Dave Sutherland), 2 pages of Snooty, but unfortunately, despite the £1.99 price, no extra pages, so Billy the Cat, Super School, Freddy Fear, Ball Boy, Bea and Ivy, Tom's version of Dennis, Gnasher and Gnipper, Les Pretend, Ratz, and Johnny Bean are all absent. For the price, I'd have liked extra pages and a third free gift, that's what Dandy Xtreme gives you for that money. Also, the Numskulls and Roger didn't fit the posh theme. I also think the Sonic advert was badly placed, should've been a few pages further in, Dennis was on pages 1, 4 and 5! Too big a gap in that story in my opinion. It's not like the 1980s when you just turned the comic back to front to read the conclusion. I liked the Bash Street story though, and Snooty seems to have finally got a pal!

you want more free gifts...
don't you just throw them away...
I prefer Tom's normal style..
Good point if it was a posh issue then all the stories should be about it..
Lord Snooty needs a top hat..

I'd rather they just charged the usual £1.25 instead of hiking the price! My point is, they should offer the same stuff (i.e. pages and gifts) as Dandy Xtreme does if they're going to charge the same money. You're right though, as an adult reader (I've been collecting Beanos since 1995) I usually just put the gifts away somewhere. You never know, they might be worth something one day!

Wish I'd had the idea of keeping all the free gifts (though the sweets might go a bit off, but they're not likely to be worth much!). One day they just might be worth quite a lot, and if they're not, you can have a nice bonfire
(only kidding!).

Hmm. You know I don't keep the edible gifts right?
I do of course just eat them.

Yes, of course I didn't think you'd keep the edible gifts! That whole post of mine was very tongue in cheek and should not be taken seriously.
I usually just throw my gifts away - but then again, look at how much the last surviving Whopee mask (from the Beano no.1), evidence that one day even the simplest toy or gift may be worth a huge amount!

Yeah, that's a good example, and exactly what I meant in my March 15th post.
Re: The "Posh" (and over-expensive) Beano
Heads up: next week's issue is a Harry Potter themed issue and costs £2.50! That's the same as BeanoMax.
It does have a "free" (more like 51p) mini-comic and two other free gifts though.

Free comic? Harry potter themed? I could probrably guess its the harry potter themed bash street kids. I may be wrong though, its not a problem if I am right as I'm a huge fan of Mike Pearses work! The beanos now the same price of a pint! Gosh I should quit drinking altogether
Re: The "Posh" (and over-expensive) Beano
No, the mini-comic is a Dennis story (Dennis and the Magic Quest), it's front cover was shown in the advert. There's an 8 page story called Hairy Trotter in the main comic - Rasher perhaps? The name reminded me of Spiderpig aka Harry Plopper from The Simpsons Movie.
By the way, the other two free gifts are Squirting Specs and a Harry Potter poster.

Sorry it thought you could see the cover in the advert I will buy the beano (and toxic new jamie smart starts this month) and have a look myself. Seeing as you cannot look into the future and tell me the artist digifiend I shall let you off! Ha ha
Re: The "Posh" (and over-expensive) Beano
beat the expensive ones - subscribe! (which I just did)
Re: The "Posh" (and over-expensive) Beano
The advert in this week's issue only showed the cover of the mini-comic (and very small too). Until I see the story itself, I've no way of checking the artist. And that's assuming the cover isn't drawn by a different artist to the actual story, which has happened before.
Description: Looks like Dennis borrowed Olaff the Madlander's sword and boots (maybe Olaff's back? They still have about 4 years of strips to use). He's also wearing a skirt!
It also shows a dragon, some armoured ogres/orcs, and a horned warrior with a helmet covering his face. Doesn't look like any of Dennis's regular artists, but I just can't tell for sure without seeing next week's issue.
