Champ Fun Section

Post by stevezodiac »

I found the first ten issues of Champ you know where. Was interested to see they had a four page fun section in the centre. The strips were reprints but the Dennis bit was new. But what about the I Spy segment at the bottom? It looks new to me as (in the example i've provided) he interacts with Gnasher. Does anyone know how long the Fun Section and I Spy lasted in it?

In issue 11, The Spike Report moved into the Fun Section due to Spike merging with Champ! Yes, that early! But Champ was gone after just 20 months.

the I SPY strip ran from the beginning of CHAMP, Steve, and progressed to a slightly larger format later on........the strip by BRIAN WALKER ran for most of the comic's tenure but whether it ran for the full duration of the comic, I'm afraid I can't remember.

sorry, mate!

The I SPY strip ran across the bottom of the pages of the Fun Section in black and white until issue 29 (Sep. 8 1984). The following week it replaced Send For Kelly, appeared therefore all on one page, and became a coloured strip with the addition of red and yellow in order to match Puss And Boots on the facing page. The yellow is removed from issue 45 onwards (Dec. 29 1984), as it is from Puss And Boots. I SPY is present in every issue I have of Champ, including 85. My missing issues are 60 : 69-71 : 73-77 : 80 : 83 : and, crucially, the last two 86-87. I'm sorry I can't completely resolve this matter but if any member has the above issues, it will only take a few minutes to check for the presence of I SPY, and a few more to report in. The strip did not transfer to The Victor on amalgamation.

I can confirm that the other issues have I-Spy in them too.

PS Thanks. I have gotten so into IPC's adventure comics that I had forgotten how good DCT's were.
